After a hard fought first quarter, North Medford trailed by only three points after an unhelpful hotel visit five and a half hours from their home. However, after the first quarter of play concluded, Aiden Williams and Jesuit decided it was time to punch their ticket to the Chile’s center.
En route to a 69-42 victory, Jesuit looked dominant on both sides of the ball, controlling the pace of play for almost the entire final three quarters. The Crusaders held off a high-effort performance from Jett Carpenter to dominate the Tornadoes and carry their momentum into the elite eight.
Here’s our top performers from Friday:
Aiden Williams (2019 Jesuit) – Stats: 24 points, 4 reb, 2 ast
The sharpshooting senior made it difficult for the Tornadoes, knocking down six three pointers to help build Jesuit’s lead. Each of William’s threes tilted momentum in favor of the fourth seeded Crusaders, who heavily count on the senior guard’s shooting to spark their offense. Williams can do damage off the dribble as well as in catch-and-shoot situations, and he will need to continue his perimeter dominance if Jesuit wants to make a title run.
Justin Bieker (2019 Jesuit) – Stats: 11 points, 6 reb, 4 ast, 1 blk
Jesuit’s utility big man filled the stat sheet once again on Friday, leading his team in assists and rebounds. The 6-foot-5 senior played a steady game, showing solid patience and coachability. Almost all of Bieker’s scoring comes in the flow of the offense, and he quite simply knows how to play an efficient game. The senior post isn’t known for creating his own shot, but he knows how to get his in other ways.
Jett Carpenter (2020 North Medford) – Stats: 18 points, 4 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl
Carpenter was the lone bright spot offensively for North Medford. The 6-foot-4 junior repeatedly made hard-nosed drives to the bucket on his way to 18 big points for the visiting Tornadoes, who will heavily rely on Carpenter’s offensive production next season. The junior gives 100 percent every play he’s on the floor, which leads to a fair share of momentous plays.
