Dillard big shows range
Fort Lauderdale Dillard used 6-foot-7 Makerere Williams (pictured with Boyd Anderson coach Eugene Richardson) primarily in the paint. Thursday night, Williams showed college assistants in attendance that he could also hit from long range with consistency. Williams banged in multiple 3-pointers en route to being named the North Central MVP in a 93-76 victory over the South Central. You already knew Williams was a horse on the boards. The Panthers senior gave colleges something else to think about. Dillard reached the Class 7A state championship before falling to Crestview in the title game. 6-foot G Jordan Greene, of Stranahan, scored 11 points and was the South Central MVP.
London honored
Alex London, a 6-7 forward out of Coral Springs High, earned MVP honors in the North-South game. London scored 14 points, including hitting two 3-pointers, to lead the BCAA North to an 88-74 victory over BCAA South.
Asked how the 2018-19 season went, London said: “My senior season didn’t go as expected. We fell short in district semis, but I was proud how my teammates played and fought to the very end.”
As for playing at the next level: “I had a few college coaches contact me but right now I am still undecided,” London said. “I wouldn’t mind starting off my college career at a JuCo or D-2 or D-3, but by the end of my senior year in college I would like to be playing for a D-1 school and being productive for the team.”
Douglas High 6-4 prospect Robert Lamour‘s play Thursday drew interest from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).
ASA watches DeBuck
ASA, a junior college in Miami, was in attendance and watching Pembroke Pines Charter 6-foot guard Justin DeBuck. DeBuck scored 13 points and was named the BCAA South MVP. “No one’s offered yet, but right now Santa Fe and ASA, so far, are recruiting me,” DeBuck said. DeBuck plans to attend Friday night’s Unsigned Seniors event at Cypress Bay High.
Graziani watch
Cooper City 2020 guard Dallas Graziani competed in the BCAA 3-point contest. Coach Eric Kapel stepped down after the season and who Cooper City decides to hire could affect where the high-scoring guard plays his final season of high school ball. If not Cooper City, one destination could be Pines Charter. Stay tuned.
Speaking of the BCAA 3-point contest: Your winner was 5-9 G Kiran Outram, of West Broward High.
Profile on the rise
2020 Dave Herard helped lead Stranahan to its first state title in school history. The problem for basketball fans is Herard’s football recruitment is blowing up. Thursday he got a text from the Nebraska coaching staff.
