MVP: Jaelen House 6’1 PG 2019 Shadow Mountain
It took a comeback, once again, in order for Shadow Mountain to beat Salpointe. Once again, it was House erupting in order to provide the team with the needed energy to make the run happen.
House brings a game changing energy and confidence to him that has carried Shadow Mountain in their lulls. In addition to being a high level player with plenty of skill, he plays with a chip on his shoulder that inspires his teammates to play at another level.
House leaves the high school ranks with one of the most stellar careers of any high school prospect.
1st Team All-State:
Jovan Blacksher 6’1 PG 2019 Shadow Mountain
House was stellar, but Blacksher provided this team with the means necessary to not only be one of the best teams in the state, but in the nation. Blacksher and House provided one of the best backcourt duos in state history.
Blacksher gave this team another high IQ guard who is active on the defensive end and makes great decisions on the offensive end. He did whatever it took to win games and did plenty of that. Blacksher will move to the college ranks and have a lot of success at the next level.
Shemar Morrow 6’4 SF 2020 Shadow Mountain
Morrow is another tremendous prospect with a lot of upside and skill. He provided the team with an athletic presence who can finish around the rim and clean up the glass. His physical play and versatility made this team extremely dangerous. His role will see a significant change with Blacksher and House moving on.
Evan Nelson 6’2 PG 2020 Salpointe
Nelson provides this team with a high IQ point guard who can score the basketball from anywhere on the floor. His toughness and ability to make those around him better has nearly afforded Salpointe the opportunity to take down Shadow Mountain two years in a row.
Nelson coming back makes Salpointe one of the top contenders for the 4A state title next year.
Johnny Diaz 5’11 PG 2019 Deer Valley
Diaz was one of the most dangerous guards in 4A all year. His leadership and ability to score at will were imperative to the success of Deer Valley this year. He plays fearlessly and competes at a high level. Diaz will move on to play at Pima Community College next year.
Carson James 6’3 PG/SG 2019 Catalina Foothills
James is a knockdown shooter who dictated the tempo for Catalina Foothills. His leadership was paramount to the success of Catalina Foothills in the state tournament. While they might have been a surprise team to mean due to their ranking, they were expected by many to make a deep run because of James.
2nd Team All-State:
Majok Deng 6’5 SF 2019 Salpointe
Brandon Savage 6’8 PF/C 2019 Deer Valley
Jalen Williams 6’3 SF 2019 Shadow Mountain
Tay Boothman 6’2 PG 2020 Buckeye
Jackson Ruai 6’4 PG/SG 2019 Ampitheater
