SF Terrence Hargrove (East St. Louis – 2019)
Hargrove was an absolute force in the 3A state championship game! He scored in every single way possible. The most impressive might have been how well he shot it from the perimeter. Knocked down an array of threes and pull up jumpers. His shot has improved so much since we first saw him as a sophomore. Hargrove hammered multiple dunks home with force. When the game was on line he made plays. Banked in a tough shot. Had an and-1. Then the right handed hook shot that would ultimately give the Flyers the lead they wouldn’t give back. As always he set the tone on the boards and swatting shots. Hargrove has had a historic career. It ended with 32 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, and one 3A trophy.
PF Richard Robinson (East St. Louis – 2019)
Robinson was quiet for a big portion of the championship game. Late in the fourth and in OT he went to work. The biggest play was an explosive offensive rebound put back that he flushed home off a missed free throw to send the game to OT. Nice combination of strength and athleticism around the hoop. Shot blocking presence and can rebound in traffic. He had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
PG Jashawn Anderson (East St. Louis – 2020)
Anderson is a smaller point guard that can really go. Quick twitched PG with speed pushing in transition. He lives in the lane off dribble penetration. The junior guard gets in the paint where he loves the floater and can also put in acrobatic layups. Also hit a three for 14 points in their semifinal win. Came back with 10 big points in the title game.
G Elijah Rice (East St. Louis – 2019)
Rice is a strong combo guard that does a nice job rebounding and on the defensive end. Offensively he is at his best drilling pull up ups and slashing with strength. 6 points and 4 rebounds in the championship.
SG Traeveion Jones (East St. Louis – 2019)
Jones had a nice game in the semis for the Flyers. Long and angular two guard that plays bigger than his height with his length. Drilled a corner three. Active on the offensive glass. Brings toughness on the defensive end. He had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.
PG Cornellius Leflore (East St. Louis – 2019)
Leflore struggled shooting the ball in Peoria. The smaller guard hit a pair of threes in the semis, but that was it for the weekend missing a lot of shots.
PF Rashaun Agee (Bogan – 2019)
Agee is the top uncommitted post in the state. I think he opened a lot of eyes with his performance in the championship game. The 6’8” power forward was DOMINANT! The best we have ever seen him in high school or AAU. He left it all out there. Agree threw down huge slams all game long. Early on ESL fronted him and he ate it up for slam after slam. Then Bogan started throwing lobs to him which he slammed home including one from half court. Ran the floor for several buckets. He was also a force on the boards grabbing them in and out of his area. Agee had 24 points and 14 rebounds. Mid-major target!
G Darrion Jones (Bogan – 2021)
Jones is a 5’11” sophomore with a strong and compact build. He was excellent getting loose in the open floor for finishes in the semis. Multiple transition scores using his speed to beat opponents down the floor. Also had several nice dishes when going downhill including a sweet alley-oop to Agee. Went for 10 points. In the championship game he was quiet in regulation, but was their go to guy in OT attacking the rim.
SF Kyndal Davis (Bogan – 2020)
Davis is a versatile small forward with size on the perimeter. Like how he can check multiple positions defensively. Rebounds well grabbing boards at their highest points. Got on the offensive glass for a couple put backs. Davis had 7 points and 8 rebounds in the title game.
PG Jeremiah Washington (Bogan – 2019)
Washington is a really interesting case here. The Ferris State commit is a no doubt D2 player, but he came off the bench for the Bengals and really didn’t do a ton while he was in there. Held to 2 points combined in their two games. Was solid passing it in the championship with four dimes.
PG Jordan Booker (Bogan – 2019)
Booker is a volume scoring point guard at about 5’9”. He was solid in the semifinal slashing to the rim and getting an and-1. At times he can be a bit wild with the ball with his high risk high reward play. Was a major part of the Bengals run to state. 10 points and 3 dimes in the semis.
SG Antoine Bloxton (Bogan – 2020)
Bloxton was the prospect I was most looking forward to seeing in Peoria. He missed the first half of his junior year because of transfer rules. Since then he has been putting up big numbers. He showed flashes, but overall was held in check. Went for 13 points total in the two games. He did have 10 of them in the championship. Smooth looking baseline jumper. Likes to use a one dribble pull up to get his shot off. Also had a slick cross on his man finishing with a step back. One we will be watching closely this spring.
PG Tyreon Hardin (Bogan – 2019)
Hardin is a 5’10” point guard that can shoot it a little knocking down a pair of threes in their first game in Peoria. Worth a look for small colleges.
SG Jayvon Clark (Bogan – 2019)
Clark put his name on the map of small schools with his play in the last two games of his career. Active guard that plays with a motor. He had a layup, runner, and a wing three. Also flashed as a defender. 7 points in the semi.
PF Tremear Fraley (Bogan – 2020)
Fraley is a post that is intriguing in the 2020 class. Didn’t get a lot of playing time at state, but in the nine minutes he was in there during the championship game he showed some of what makes him one to track. Rebounds well in and out of his area. Strong kid with mobility. Got on the offensive glass for a put back. 3 points and 5 boards in the championship.
SG Perry Cowan (DePaul Prep – 2019)
Cowan has been an absolute pleasure to cover over the last four years. First class kid and the Brown commit displayed what he will bring to the next level in his final high school game. The two guard has a silky smooth jumper from both mid-range and three. He knocked down one from the corner along with a pair of pull up jumpers. Cowan can also post up other guards finishing with quickness on the block. Went for 13 points.
SG Tyler Johnson (DePaul Prep – 2021)
Johnson had quite a weekend in Peoria. The lengthy two guard has always been known for his plus shooting which he showed off knocking down several triples. Also got buckets on back cuts and running the floor. Solid passer and handles continue to show growth. Went for 15 points in the 3rd place game.
C Brian Mathews (DePaul Prep – 2021)
Mathews is a prospect not many know about, but the #2 center in the 2021 class is one to watch. Big and physical post with legit size. Screener and plays with physicality rebounding along with being a tough post defender. Did an excellent job clearing the glass in the 3rd place game. As a scorer he ran the floor for a bucket after grabbing a defensive board. Fouled on a dunk attempt. Fluid pick and roll finish as well. He had 9 points and 9 rebounds in the 3rd place game. Bright future!
PG Raheem Anthony (DePaul Prep – 2019)
This powerfully built combo guard stepped up for the Rams in the third place game. He used his strength to get on the offensive glass for three put backs. Also had a couple strong takes to the rack for scores. Solid distributor in that game getting his weapons the ball in positions to succeed. He had 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 dimes.
SG Lance Mosley (DePaul Prep – 2020)
Mosley showed off his three point shooting in the 3rd place game going 2-5 from deep. Will need to consistently show a more diverse game this spring as he played the role of shooter for DePaul Prep.
C Pavle Pantovic (DePaul Prep – 2020)
This Loyola walk on commit struggled in the first game against Bogan’s huge front line. Played better in the third place game. Nice hook shot, layup off a quick pass, and competed on the glass. Physical and smart kid. He had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 dimes.
SG Pee Wee Brown (Peoria Manual – 2020)
Brown did all he could attempting to carry Manual to a win, but it wasn’t enough in the semis. The junior shooting guard has been on a tear lately scoring at will during their state title run. Didn’t knock down many jumpers although he opened with a corner three instead consistently slashing to the hoop where he scored on slithering drives to the cup. Active rebounder on both ends. Got to the line a lot where he could have been better missing quite a few at a 9-17 clip. He had 24 points.
C Joshua Ivory (Peoria Manual – 2020)
Ivory is a big bodied junior post that came off the bench to provide rebounding. Moves bodies on the interior and is a solid area rebounder. Not much scoring only netting 2 points, but grabbed 8 rebounds in the semis.
PG Quintez Edwards (Peoria Manual – 2019)
Edwards is a senior point guard with some strength. He can shoot the rock knocking down three triples along with a 15 foot jumper. Should definitely find a home at the next level. 11 points in the 3rd place game.
PG Myriece Byrd (Peorian Manual – 2020)
This small and thin junior point guard showed well in the third place game. Decent passer that can also get in the lane for acrobatic layups. 9 points in the 3rd place game.
SG Marshawn Tolliver (Peoria Manual – 2021)
Tolliver caught our eye in Peoria with his intensity. This 6’0” sophomore two guard has strength and knows how to use it getting in the lane for runners, slashes, and grabbing rebounds. 7 points and 5 rebounds in the 3rd place game.
