3A Regionals: How That Broke Down
In 3A, we saw things go chalk in the South and kind of went crazy in the North. Down at Southridge, you had Batesville and Silver Creek make it through and then see Silver Creek move on after a very much anticipated battle between the two well matched up programs. Greencastle did see Beech Grove knock off the hosts in an upset keeping things alive but they weren’t able to extend it again as they fell to Crispus Attucks in the finale that night.
In the North, Culver Academies moved on after knocking off Hanover Central and then Hammond in the nightcap. Then, after a pretty easy morning for both Marion and Delta, Marion was able to pull off the upset. Delta hadn’t lost a game all season long and they just couldn’t get their offense going and lost, 45-39. That sets up a very intriguing duo of games next Saturday.
3A Semistate: What To Watch For
Culver Academies vs. Marion – 6:00 PM ET Saturday @ Elkhart
Trying to predict how this matchup is going to go is like flipping a coin. So many different ways to look at things. Culver has the depth and top-end talent like Trey Galloway and Ethan Brittain-Watts. But Marion and Jalen Blackmon have found their stride here in the second half of the season. They can put up a ton of points and have a bucket-getter in Blackmon who can drop 40 if needed to help his team win.
Logic says Culver has been to the state finals before, has more reliable scorers and Marion has one guy that they know will get his points but not as confident beyond that. Logic says Culver but this is just the type of game that deserves a last second shot to win the game. Predicting this outcome just doesn’t seem smart.
Crispus Attucks vs. Silver Creek – 3:00 PM ET Saturday @ Seymour
This is one of the most anticipated matchups this postseason, these two teams are so talented from top to bottom and the amount of offense that could be put up in this game could make it so fun to watch. Silver Creek averages 75.3 points per game while Attucks brings in 69.4. They rank as #2 and #18 in offense in the state.
Realistically, this game probably won’t reach their averages on offense just because that isn’t the norm for postseason play. But, that doesn’t mean their isn’t going to be a lot of plays made for each team. Guards might end up being the key in this game and Attucks is super deep and more talented. If Silver Creek can limit guys like Harold Bennet and let their forwards in Kooper Jacobi and Trey Kaufman play well, this could be a battle.
