2A Regionals: How That Broke Down
For Saturday, there were so many great games all over the state but 2A might have had the most. From Andrean escaping Marquette Catholic and then knocking off Westview to the battle between Frankton and Wabash along with Covington later that night. Monrovia getting upset in the early game and Northeastern making a name for itself to Linton-Stockton and Paoli coming down to a buzzer beater and Tell City showing their strength. So, so many games this past weekend shaped 2A heading into Semistate.
Andrean was the biggest surprise as they were the one team that most wouldn’t have picked to make it to next week. They have, though, been the most impressive team in the state this postseason with their run to Semistate. Frankton has been up and down but you kind of just thought they would have found a way to make it through a very underrated Regional. On the Southside of the bracket, Shenandoah did what they were supposed to do but neither game came easy. They play Linton-Stockton who was down a ton to Paoli and had to use a last-second bucket to escape the morning game before taking it to Tell City later that night in probably the toughest Regional in the state.
2A Semistate: What To Watch For
Andrean vs. Frankton – 1:00 PM ET Saturday – Lafayette Jefferson
Riding a 19 game winning streak, Frankton has locked in the second half of the season but their play in those games has been a little hectic at times. But, this is a group that has won a state title and led by a big group of seniors. They get the hottest team in the state as Andrean’s run here is impressive with their sophomore standout, Kyle Ross, playing the best ball of his career.
Andrean has more size but they haven’t been this deep in the tournament since 2012-13. Frankton has been to state twice in the last five years and won a Championship in 2016-17 when these seniors were sophomores. Guys like Rylan Detling and Kayden Key are going to be tough and with the depth of guards Frankton has, all that can shoot well, it is going to be difficult to keep them contained if they are at their best.
Shenandoah vs. Linton-Stockton – 1:00 PM ET Saturday – Seymour
If you are looking for an X’s and O’s style game but one that can also pack some offense into it, this is the game you are going to want to watch. Both teams are well coached and they have a combined 52-4 record this season. This isn’t a game for the faint of heart. This will be a battle. Shenandoah is made up of a ton of sophomores that have played very well within their system but Linton-Stockton plays teams like this often enough that they won’t be shook and they have a much more senior-led team although their best player, Lincoln Hale, is just a sophomore and has been able to get any shot he wants.
This game won’t be an easy one for the players but will be one for the fans to enjoy. This is a game that Indiana high school basketball fans will get behind because of the fanbases and competitive atmosphere. You never count Shenandoah out in any game with their coaching staff but Linton isn’t a slouch and they might just be the older version of what Shenandoah is. Is it there time or not?
