These teams have met three times this season already with Farmville winning every matchup as they come into this game with a 30-0 record. The Jaguars are led by one of the top backcourts in the state, in 2020 Guard Justin Wright and 2021 Guard Terquavion Smith who can both fill up a stat sheet. In the last round, Smith was the go to guy, scoring 26 points to lead the team, throw in 2020 Guard Samage Teel who can score the ball at a very high rate, and the bigs in 2019 Forward Dyquavis Wilkins and 2021 Forward Leontae Moye who are both double/double guys and you have a very tough team to beat. Greene Central’s path to this point has been a bit different as they have had some up and downs throughout the season but they come in with a record of 23-7. Senior Forward Imajae Dodd is the name that many know as he is a beast on both ends of the floor and will have a huge impact on the game without a doubt. Greene Central also features 2019 Wing Jekael Gay who has been playing at a solid level this season, and some nice play from Senior Guard Hysaan Hudson who is averaging double figures in scoring. Two players that could be the X factor for Greene Central are 2019 Forward Donte Johnson & 2020 Guard Kentrell Suggs, both are players that can step up and make plays for their squad. Johnson will definitely be needed on the boards to battle with the size of Farmville Central, and Suggs will be a player that will be needed to knock down shots.
1A Regional Championship Henderson Collegiate vs Washington County
Both of these teams have been playing at a very high level and seem to be playing better as playoff time arrived. Henderson Collegiate is a team that has quite a few weapons which makes them dangerous and hard to contain on a nightly basis. We have told you before about Junior Guard Kalib Matthews who is close to a double/double player in points and rebounds and almost came up with a triple double last game with 9, 8 and 9. Sophomore Ahkiris Holden is one that stepped up and played well, he finished with 12 points and 12 boards last round and is one to keep an eye as he is a younger player with good upside. We can’t forget Junior Kameron Brooks as well who is another player that is a double figure scorer for the squad. Washington County comes into this matchup with a record of 26-1 and have only had one close game in the playoffs so far. Junior De’andre Downing is one player for their squad that we like and has shown that he can consistently make plays at a high level, just last game he put together a 17 point, 15 rebound performance against a very solid West Columbus squad. Senior Forward Calvin Singleton may not put up monster scoring numbers but his ability to rebound the ball at a high level is definitely something that helps his squad. Junior Cedez Norman has been outstanding for Washington County all season long, his averages of 17, 7, 5 and 3 lets you know that he can impact the game in a variety of ways and that will be what his team needs from him to advance.
