This five game shootout was an excellent evaluation event allowing us to see several prospects we needed to get further looks at along with finding quite a few new players to add to our radar. Here we go in-depth on the prospects we saw in Wooden Shoes Shootout: Evaluations Part 1!
SG Jacob Spitz (Mattoon – 2019)
Spitz was a huge difference maker for Mattoon. The 6’0” shooting guard connected on four triples in their game. Sweet lefty shooting stroke with a quick release. Should be a nice shooting specialist at the small college level. He had 20 points.
SG Jadyn Princko (Mattoon – 2019)
Princko put himself on our radar a couple years ago hitting some big shots as a youngster at the Salem Invitational Tournament. He has grown height wise as he is now up to 6’0” with a solid build. Princko was lights out shooting it knocking down threes both off the catch and pulling up. Crisp ball handler that had a couple slippery drives as well converting tough layups or making runners over bigger defenders. He had 23 points.
SG Jaydon Noe (Mattoon – 2019)
Noe was the third in Mattoon’s trio of guards that made an impact. This 6’1” senior has a decent skill level. Made some plays in the lane getting fouled and connecting on runners. Also hit a pair from beyond the arc en route to 18 points.
C Sam Bradbury (Mattoon – 2022)
Bradbury wasn’t even on the roster, but this 6’5” freshman definitely put his name on the map. Wide bodied five man that is a bit raw, but definitely flashed potential. Powerful finishing around the hoop. Decent area rebounder. Definitely a young big man to track! Scored 8 points.
PF Alex Yardley (Mattoon – 2020)
Yardley is a kid that had popped up on our radar earlier in his career. He came off the bench for Mattoon and the 6’6” post displayed decent mobility, passing on the interior, and potential as an area rebounder.
PG Antwan Glasper (Madison – 2019)
Glasper did everything that he could do to get his team back in the game against Mattoon. The senior 5’9” guard is a smaller scoring combo guard with a thick build. He is a tough kid that knocked down an array of threes en route to 21 points.
SG Emmitt Gordon (Madison – 2019)
Gordon stands at 6’3” with broad shoulders and an athletic frame. He showed burst off the bounce attacking the rim, but was extremely wild finishing and missed most of his takes to the cup. Connected on a couple jumpers with a fluid stroke. Plus athlete with developmental upside. Gordon scored 17 points.
SF Maurice Baker (Madison – 2019)
Baker is an undersized power player at 6’3”. He got on the offensive glass for a pair of put backs. Thick bodied senior also finished dump off passes. He had 8 points.
SG Connor Heaton (Central A&M – 2020)
Heaton was one of the breakout performers of the day for us. The 6’5” shooting guard has excellent size for position and the ability to play multiple spots as he played both on and off the ball. With his size and strength he can play the three as well. The junior has some athletic pop off the bounce as he took it to the hoop over and over when the game got close in the fourth quarter. Tight handles along with excellent body control finishing with either hand. Definitely a capable shooter especially off the catch. He had 28 points.
PF Griffin Andricks (Central A&M – 2020)
Andricks was a 6’6” junior that definitely put his name on the radar with his play. Well-built four man that runs the floor well, blocks shots, and can stretch the floor out to beyond the three point arc. He had 12 points.
PG Jacob Paradee (Central A&M – 2020)
Paradee is a 5’10” point guard that brings toughness to the table. Creative handle and potential as a passer. He scored 4 points.
SG Chance Black (Robinson – 2019)
Black stands at 6’1” and this senior proved he could put the ball in the hoop. Was a major part of Robinson’s comeback attempt. He drained an array of threes along with several crafty takes. Not the most athletic kid, but this scrappy guard gets the job done. He had 18 points.
SG Brayden Childress (Robinson – 2019)
Childress is a senior 6’3” guard who presents good size and a little athleticism. Caught a nice alley-oop off an out of bounds play. A bit wild at times. He had 8 points.
PG Kade Lassen (Robinson – 2020)
Lassen was the point guard for Robinson and the tiny 5’9” guard who has a compact build proved to be a decent passer along with scoring 6 points.
SG Dylan Smith (Robinson – 2019)
Creative scorer off the bounce who has crafty handles. Made plays in the lane scoring 8 points.
SF Tevin Smith (Danville – 2021)
Smith continues to impress each time we see him this season. The top 10 sophomore played like it against Effingham St. Anthony. The 6’4” sophomore is an elite level athlete that uses it in a variety of ways. He was impressive high pointing rebounds in traffic. Quick to the glass for put backs. He is at his best in transition as a wing finisher. The skill set in the half court continues to come along. He had a three along with a one dribble pull up in rhythm. Couple big slams including an alley-oop to close out his night. His handles have tightened up which is great to combine with his explosive first step. Much improved as a defender. Went for 27 points.
G Sean Houpt (Danville – 2019)
Houpt is one of the better unsigned combo guards in the state. The lefty can play both on and off the ball. In this game he was most effective off the ball as a spot up shooter. Houpt rained down an array of triples. Pushed in transition and had a couple slick takes to the rim. Solid rebounder from his guard spot and was an excellent on ball perimeter defender. He had 18 points.
PG Nathanael Hoskins (Danville – 2021)
Hoskins is among the top sophomore point guards in the stage. The left 6’2” point guard has a crafty game. High IQ guard that isn’t the most explosive, but understands how to score and where he has advantages. Got in the lane for a runner and layup. Hit a three off the catch. Solid game scoring 11 points.
G Atavyon Stewart (Danville – 2019)
Stewart is a small 5’9” utility guard that was active on the defensive end using his quickness to get steals and go the other way for scores.
PG Devin Miles (Danville – 2021)
Miles is a thick bodied point guard at 5’10” that is more of a role player at this stage. Should see more contributions out of him as his career progresses.
