O’Dea came into this game as the likely favorite, but the word around the Tacoma Dome was MP could be a dark house at 20-3 on the season. O’Dea jumped out on them in the first half leading 28-17, forcing MP into 11 turnovers. O’Dea would control the game, building their lead up to 19 at one point, before MP came storming back in the fourth. O’Dea had just enough plays go their way down the stretch to win 63-53.
Standout players, stats and takeways below!
2021 6’9 F Paolo Banchero (O’Dea HS) – 19 points, 10 rebounds
2021 5’11 G Jaylon Ellis (O’Dea HS) – 10 points and tough defense off the bench
2019 6’5 SG RaeQuan Battle (MP) – 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks
2021 6’4 SF Jermaine Davis (O’Dea HS) – 10 points, 4 rebounds 2 assists
2020 6’4 F Cameron Stordahl (MP) – 10 points and physical defense
Takeaways:
1) RaeQuan Battle is legit! What he has done for this team is beyond impressive. On offense, he plays guard, wing and post. On defense he guarded Noah Williams on some possessions and Paolo in others. He is the definition of versatile. He is a good balance of being level-headed and competitive.
2) O’Dea showed real flashes of being at the top of their game. Coming into the season, some people had O’Dea winning it all. Injuries, sickness and just some mid-season dry spells changed many people’s outlook, but they looked like a team that can really win it for three quarters. (Took their foot off gas pedal in the fourth)
3) University of Puget Sound got a steal in 2019 6’4 W John Misel of O’Dea. He has a solid all around game with the ability to shoot, defend and make smart plays. He could have ended up at a Division 2 school, but he found a great fit at UPS and will have a great career for the Loggers.
