Last week was the final week of the regular season for Class 1A and 2A, and as such, these will be the final 1A/2A rankings until after the state tournament. (Note: There are a few more regular season games left in those classes early this week, with teams that don’t have to play opening round postseason games trying to fit another game or two into the schedules.) There will be one more set of rankings next week for Classes 3A and 4A. There was some movement across all four classes this week, and we detail the key moves below.
-The top five teams in the class remain the same, which means we have a massive game on Monday night, as #1 North Scott (18-0) travels to #2 Bettendorf (17-1). Tip-off for that game has been moved up to 5:00 pm due to incoming weather, so make note of that.
-Surging Linn-Mar (12-5) has won nine of their last 10 games, including an overtime win on Saturday over then-#6 Cedar Falls. The Lions have cracked the rankings, coming in at #10, as a result. Linn-Mar joins #3 Dubuque Senior (14-2), #6 Iowa City West (13-3), #7 Cedar Falls (14-3) and #9 Cedar Rapids Prairie (14-3) as MVC teams in the 4A rankings.
|5||Sioux City East||17-1||5|
|6||Iowa City West||13-3||8|
|8||West Des Moines Valley||16-4||7|
|9||Cedar Rapids Prairie||14-3||10|
-Sergeant Bluff-Luton (16-3) continues to hold on to the #1 spot following a 19-point win over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. The Warriors have won nine straight and are 11-1 since the holiday break, with the lone setback being a two-point overtime loss to a strong Sioux City West team.
-Norwalk (16-4) drops a spot despite winning three games last week, as they got crushed on Saturday by a Cole Henry-less Oskaloosa (12-5) team. Oskaloosa gets back into the rankings this week at #9 as a result of that win, and rumor has it that Henry (broken hand) is going to try and make his comeback this week.
-Denison-Schleswig (15-4) also enter the rankings this week for the first time this season, coming in at #10. The Monarchs are riding a seven game winning streak.
-All ten teams that were ranked last week are still ranked, albeit in a much different order. North Linn (20-0) continues to hold strong at #1, notching an 87-40 win over then-1A #3 Montezuma on Saturday. The Lynx are winning games by an average score of 93-41 this year.
-Dike-New Hartford (18-1) and Iowa City Regina (17-2) are the big movers of the week, with each moving up two spots to #4 and #5, respectively, following two losses each from Boyden-Hull (19-2) and Pella Christian (12-8). The Comets moved to #6, and the Eagles to #7, as a result.
-South Central Calhoun (20-1) also moved up a pair of spots to #8, following losses by Treynor (18-3) and Van Meter (18-2), who come in at #9 and #10, respectively.
|5||Iowa City Regina||17-2||7|
|8||South Central Calhoun||20-1||10|
-It’s Grand View Christian (19-1) and everyone else in 1A. Ankeny Christian Academy (20-0) moves up to #2 this week.
-Six of the ten ranked teams suffered losses, and two new teams enter the rankings as a result. Mason City Newman Catholic (18-2) and Easton Valley (18-3) enter at #9 and #10, respectively, each ranked for the first time this season.
|1||Grand View Christian||19-1||1|
|2||Ankeny Christian Academy||20-0||4|
|9||Mason City Newman||18-2||NR|
