Caleb Haag (Waterloo West) — No. 27
This high-flyer from Waterloo makes by far the highest debut in the newest prospect rankings. There’s plenty of highlights out there on the inter webs of him getting way above the rim for some nasty slams, but it appears he’s much more than just an elite athlete. Haag is leading the Wahawks with 15.5 points per game, and he’s shooting 54 percent from the floor. He also leads the team in 3s made, and is a formidable 37 percent from deep.
Goanar Biliew (Denison-Schleswig) — No. 40
We didn’t know a lot about the junior big-man until we started looking deeper into the class, and when we considered his sheer size and his production this season, it was clear that he was one of the state’s best bigs. Biliew is 6-foot-8 and is averaging 16.7 points, 3.1 blocks and 9.5 rebounds per game for the 11-4 Monarchs.
Chett Helming (Janesville) — No. 45
He was one of the most impressive wings at our Top 250 Expo in late-September, and now he’s posting some seriously eye-opening numbers for Lake Mills as a junior. Through a 14-3 start to the season, Helming — a 6-foot-5 guard — is averaging 18.2 points, he’s shooting 45 percent from deep and he’s leading the team in blocks (1.5).
Logan Shetterly (Pella) — No. 50
The best player on the state’s 5th-ranked 3A squad, Shetterly is a shoo-in to be a top prospect in the state. And more often than not, that type player is a top-50 caliber prospect. Which is exactly where Shetterly, a 5’11 guard, has landed. He’s averaging 18 points per game, and leading the Dutch in assists and steals, too.
Kaiden Phillips (Davenport Central) — No. 56
The surprise team in Class 4A this season has been Davenport Central, and one big reason the Blue Devils are off to a 12-2 start, is the emergence of athletic junior wing Kaiden Phillips. We like his great size and ability to score the ball. Playing on one of the state’s best teams certainly helps, too.
Zane Neubaum (South Central Calhoun) — No. 57
The best player on a 15-1 South Central Calhoun team, Neubaum has put the Titans on the map this season and has them ranked No. 10 in PHIA’s 2A rankings. He’s a 6-foot-1 point guard who’s averaging 17.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season.
Nate Reed (Sioux City North) — No. 61
Recently, Reed put himself on the map with a Player of the Week nomination after going for 63 points in a two-game span early in January. So we looked a little closer into the situation and it turns out it wasn’t a fluke. Reed has been great all season for the North Stars, the 6’2 guard is averaging 14.8 points on 53 percent shooting this season.
Charlie Wiebers (Denison-Schleswig) — No. 69
The Monarchs of Denison-Schelswig have been harboring a pair of standout 2020 players, and now they have surfaced as one of the best junior duos in Iowa. Wiebers and Goanar Biliew are an inside/outside duo that packs a lot of punch. The 6’2 point guard is averaging 15.6 points and a team-best 4.7 assists per game. A stat-stuffing guard, Wiebers also averages 3.5 steals and 4.9 rebounds.
