Continue ReadingEddie Smith is a combo guard that can add depth to anyone’s roster. The Huffman senior lead his team to the regional finals and a 22-8 record. In the sweet 16, Smith hit the game winner against Oxford. On the season, Eddie averaged 15.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. He shot 40% from the field, 32.3% from the three point line, and 87.4% from the free throw line. Defensively, Smith was one of Huffman’s best perimeter defenders. Eddie was an active defender, and he averaged 3.1 steals per contest.
Strengths
Smith is a leader and a pit bull competitor. Can play both guard spots. Has the ability to score on all 3 levels. Solid free throw shooter. Good vision. Good transition finisher. Smith has a good set up moves to attack the mid-range area. Multi-positional defender. Quick hands. Anticipates passing lanes.
Weaknesses
Shooting percentages are lower than desirable. Needs to improve his consistency. Needs to become a more comfortable on the 3 point line. Not overly athletic. Had stretches in games where he disappeared offensively.
Overview
Smith is a player with loads of potential. At 6’2, he is capable of playing both guard spots. The kid doesn’t back away from a challenge defensively. If Eddie improves his shooting consistencies, he will become a more well rounded player and a dangerous offensive player. He has all the intangibles and competitive drive to make a roster better.
