Trent put up 18.5 points, 11 rebounds per game in route to being named the Missouri Class 1 Player of the Year. To top things off, Eminence steamrolled to a 29-1 record and a state championship victory over defending champion Walnut Grove. Coming into this season, expectations were high for McBride’s Red Wings and they have delivered again. Trent has eclipsed last year’s averages and is closing in on the 2000 point mark for his career. Meanwhile, against a loaded schedule Eminence sits at 20-4 as postseason play has just gotten started. Hungry for a repeat, they are one of the favorites to make it back to Springfield out of Class 1. Trent is a very fundamentally sound, polished post presence who has expanded his range his senior season. He dominates the glass, plays hard and unselfish, and will be a great asset to a college program both on and off the floor. Prep Hoops caught up with Trent to chat about the season and the recruiting process. Check out the Q&A below!
PrepHoops: Last year was a magical ride for the Red Wings. You guys have grown up together and last year reached the pinnacle with a state championship. How have you guys stayed motivated this season and avoided the “championship hangover”
TM: I think for us it was a great feeling when we won and it felt like all the work we had put in had finally paid off. But at the same time we realize that our work isn’t done and we’re not satisfied until we get that feeling one more time.
PrepHoops: Your team has certainly been battle tested this year. I saw you against Catholic at the Ozark Mountain Shootout. What stands out to you most about this years’ team and how do you feel about your chances headed into postseason play?
TM: This year we amped up our schedule even further than previous years and I think the type of athletes you and players you see at larger schools will definitely help us going into the post season.
PrepHoops: Last year was a big year for your personally. Class 1 Player of the Year and state champion. Now you are closing on on 2000 career points. What would eclipsing the 2000 point mark mean to you?
TM: Yes, last year I was fortunate enough to get a lot of personal accolades along with our state championship so that was definitely a blessing. Getting 2000 points is something that I would love to be able to get just because I’ve put a lot of hard work into my game and it would be a special milestone in my career which many players don’t get.
PrepHoops: It can be tough at times getting enough exposure to college coaches at a small school, but you’ve definitely been getting some attention. How has the recruiting process been going so far? Any offers?
TM: Going to a small school does have its ups and downs but I’m fortunate to have a great coaching staff and teammates. I currently have 2 offers, College of the Ozarks and North Arkansas.
PrepHoops: What is the most important factor for you in making a decision on your next step? And what can the college you choose look forward to you bringing to the table?
TM: I want to pursue a career in aviation so that would be a bonus if they had a aviation program or something that could help me pursue my career. But I also look at things such as what kind of style of ball they play or how good the players get along with each other. The college I attend can expect a player that is going to be hardworking, play whatever role is needed to win, and put in the extra time and effort to do whatever it takes to win.
