But, let’s get straight to the impact players, that you should take notice of!
Top Performers:
Uriah Schwemley (6’3 / G 2019 / Shelby): Uriah Schwemley played his best game of the multiple times I have seen him play this season. The guard is bigger then most of his opposition and a lot tougher. With good speed and strength, Schwemley can get to the cup with ease. Also, the ability to knockdown the three-pointer is in his arsenal as well. A two-way player with quick lanes that can be out on the fast break in a blur! A balanced scoring effort throughout the game, the Senior was there when his team needed a bucket. Also, grabbing seven rebounds, Uriah was the best rebounder Tuesday night. Rising above with a solid vertical, and solid strength to gain possession on numerous occasions. With quality leadership traits that are noticeable, Uriah Schwemley was a standout player.
Tahj Staveskie (6’0 / G 2020 / Sandusky): My first look at the six-foot guard did not disappoint. His 17 points, he got in a variety of ways. Getting to the rack with either hand was easy for the junior. As athletic as he is, the blow by is also a solid move of his, leaving his defender planted. Staveskie showed the ability to create his own shot, off the dribble. A couple pull-up mid range jays were money, smooth release. 13 of his game high 18 points was a big reason Sandusky was able to stay in it all the way. The Sandusky playmaker plays with a swagger to him, a timely scorer for the Blue Streaks.
TJ Pugh (6’5 / WF 2021 / Shelby): TJ Pugh is a fun player to scout each time you see him on the court. The long sophomore continues to mature his all around game. With his above average post-game, not many high school defenders can work with him inside. A solid ball handler at the three and four position, Pugh works very well off the dribble. A right-handed player that finishes well to the left is also a plus. The 6’5 Whippet was big for the Shelby comeback in the second half, scoring 11 of his 16 points. Using his long frame to his advantage, Pugh was able to sky above players on the boards, a huge factor. A player to keep an eye on through the summer and next two years.
William Simpson (6’0 / WG 2020 / Sandusky): William Simpson showed signs of a streaky scorer on Tuesday night, with his 12 points. A scorer that showed it at all levels, the 6’0 was timely for Sandusky numerous times. Playing bigger than his size, Simpson plays off the ball most of the time. A high energy player that helped the Streaks gain momentum a couple of times. Should be in store for a good senior year, after his junior year came to an end.
Cody Lantz (6’1 / G 2021 / Shelby): Cody Lantz was that glue guy for Shelby in their big win over Sandusky. With eight of his 13 points in the final quarter, Lantz played some clutch ball. A huge corner three to give Shelby a lead they wouldn’t look back on. Lantz was effective from the guard spot deterring shots inside, getting his hand up in the right places. Lantz played solid on-ball defense all game, a major role player for the Whippets.
