There were 32 teams competing in 16 games in Class 6A, with lots of close finishes happening all across Alabama on Tuesday night. There are lots of recap pieces being posted, but we wanted to take a second to highlight the top scorers from the Class 6A Sub-Regional games!
Antwan Burnett
Ranked #6 by Prep Hools Alabama in the Class of 2020, Burnett and the Poets found themselves matched up against Northview, in a Sub-Regional game being played on their home court. Sidney Lanier ended up taking home the win, but not before Burnett went off for 33 points to help the Poets move onto the next round.
Brody Peebles
The #9 ranked Tigers found themselves matched up against the #1 Eagles in their Sub-Regional matchup Tuesday night. This top 10 matchup proved to be a good one, with Columbia taking the win over Hartselle 56-53. Despite his team losing, Peebles put up a good fight and helped give his team a shot when he put up 29 points. Peebles is currently ranked #8 in the Class of 2021 by Prep Hoops Alabama, so I have a feeling we haven’t heard the last of him.
Zondrick Garrett
Garrett, ranked #11 for the Class of 2020 by Prep Hoops Alabama, found himself and the Yellow Jackets facing a Buckhorn team who made some noise after upsetting #3 Mae Jemison in the Area 16 tournament semifinals last week. However, Oxford was able to handle Buckhorn, defeating them 76-63. Garrett contributed 27 points for the Yellow Jackets to help them advance to the Regional Semifinals.
Jabre Barber
Despite falling to Sidney Lanier by 38 points, Barber played a great game for Northview, with 27 points. This will be his final game for Northview, as the Dothan City Schools are closing the doors of a couple of schools next year and consolidating. What a final performance as a Northview Cougar.
Daunte Cave
After being crowned Area 8 Champions, the Huskies were looking to make some noise in the Sub-Regional matchup against Russell County. Cave put up 26 points to help give Helena the 60-42 win over Russell County and advance to the Regional Semifinals matchup against Sidney Lanier.
Eric Williams
Williams, ranked #59 by Prep Hoops Alabama in the Class of 2019, was looking to help lift his team over Spanish Fort Tuesday night. The Leopards ended up winning by a pretty big margin 79-53 and were lead by Williams, who had 26 points.
Demetrice Hardin
In a matchup against Daphne, B.C. Rain was looking to avenge their Area 1 loss in last week. Unfortunately for them, they fell short 68-59, but not before Hardin put up 24 points for the Raiders.
Taye Fields
Opelika found themselves matchup up against Calera in their Sub-Regional matchup Tuesday night. The Bulldogs were playing at home and seeking to make a deeper run into the Class 6A State Tournament. Fields, who is ranked #22 by Prep Hoops Alabama in the Class of 2021, put on a show for the home crowd. He put up 23 points, and added 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals, to help Opelika get the close 82-79 victory over Calera.
Kameron Woods
Despite an 11 point victory, Pinson Valley found themselves in a close one against Homewood Tuesday evening. It took overtime to decide a winner, but the Indians came out on top, after dominating overtime. Woods, ranked #9 by Prep Hoops Alabama in the Class of 2020, put on a showing for the home crowd with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Jadarius Blackshire
In a matchup between #4 Eufaula and #8 Carver (Montgomery), there was a pretty good chance that you were going to see a good game. This was the case Tuesday night when Carver edged Eufaula 71-67. Despite the loss, Blackshire was able to put up 22 points for the Tigers in what turned out to be their final game of the season.
