Colby Jones and Trendon Watford
As the reigning Class 7A State Champions and #1 team in the state, Mountain Brook is hungry for another Title but also has a target on their back. James Clemens gave them their best shot, but Mountain Brook reigned supreme 62-40. The biggest factor in the game was rebounds, in which Mountain Brook outrebounded James Clemens 31-16. Colby Jones led the way for the Spartans, with 16 points. Trendon Watford, also put together a good game, with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Michael Vice and Paul Michael Hargrove
Vestavia Hills fell short in the Area 6 Championship Game, but this was not the case Thursday against Florence. The Rebels pieced together a very nice game and took a 61-43 win to advance to the next round. Michael Vice led the way for Vestavia Hills, with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Paul Michael Hargrove also had a solid performance, with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Rebels.
Demond Robinson and DeMarshia Davis
With the largest winning margin of the day, Lee-Montgomery had a big 91-50 victory over Smiths Station Thursday night. Everything was going right for the Generals and very little was going in favor of the Panthers. Demond Robinson led the way for Lee, an 18 point and 13 rebounds double-double. In addition, he also added 7 blocks and 2 assists to the stat sheet. DeMarshia Davis also had a nice performance for the Generals, with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Dallas Howell and Ja’Juan Hayes
In the only overtime game of the day, the matchup between Central-Phenix City and Enterprise turned out to be quite a good game. Enterprise took the victory in overtime, outscoring Central 18-7. Dallas Howell led the way with a 19 point and 12 rebounds double-double, along with 4 blocks and 4 steals. Ja’Juan Hayes also helped out the Wildcats, with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Ahman Ellington and CJ Melton
After winning the Area 5 Championship Game, #7 Hoover found themselves matched up against a #4 ranked Sparkman, who suffered a 1 point loss to Huntsville High School in the Area 7 Championship Game. Hoover reigned victorious in this one, upsetting Sparkman 69-54. Ahman Ellington had a very impressive performance for Sparkman, with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. CJ Melton also performed well for the Buccaneers, with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
John Cole Norris and Nathan Moore
Despite a close game, a lopsided 12-5 3rd quarter in Huntsville’s favor turned out to be the deciding factor in this matchup. After two close quarters to start the game, Huntsville went to the locker room up by 1 point. They came out strong and were able to get the 59-47 victory over Thompson. John Cole Norris was one of the reasons for Huntsville’s success, shooting 6-9 from the field and finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Nathan Moore also contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 3 assists.
Kriston Davis
In another matchup that was decided by just one quarter, Baker walked away with a 56-52 victory over Fairhope. The 15-9 2nd quarter in Baker’s favor was the storyline for this one, allowing Baker to move one game closer to a State Championship. Scoring was pretty spread out for the Hornets, but Kriston Davis led the way with 17 points and 6 rebounds, shooting 3-5 from behind the three-point line.
Matthew McNeece and Christopher-Al Suggs
A sloppy finish from Theodore gave #2 ranked McGill-Toolen a 53-48 victory in the final game of the Regional Semifinals. Despite a close one, Theodore had a multitude of mistakes in the final minutes and allowed McGill-Toolen to take the victory and move onto the next round. Matthew McNeece led the way for the Yellow Jackets, with 15 points and 4 rebounds; he was also 8-8 from the free throw line. Christopher Al-Suggs also contributed 14 points.
