The last time these two teams faced each other, the Pirates fell to Colonels 64-44 at South Garland. However, this matchup was more of a close one. Wylie either was leading or trailing by one-point for the majority of the game. But in the final minutes, The Colonels made the winning plays on both ends to seal the deal with a 12-point victory to stay undefeated in UIL 6A District 10.
Player Breakdown
Chris Harris Jr. / 6’3″ / SG / South Garland / 2019
Harris kept his team in the game with his sensational second half performance from the perimeter (including a 9-point third quarter). He was automatic from the mid-range and even drilled a few threes in the contest. The Texas A&M signee led South Garland with 23 points in their first matchup with Wylie. A few weeks later and nothing has changed as he did the exact same thing in their second meeting.
Tyrese Maxey / 6’4″ / SG / South Garland / 2019
Maxey was aggressive right from the tip-off. He scored the Colonels first eight points of the game and finished the half with a team-high fourteen. The burger boy quieted down in the second half, but made the right plays in the given time and scored 19 points in the win. Maxey will provide value at either guard spot at Kentucky. He will be a great option at the one because of his ability to see the floor. Also, his effectiveness moving without the basketball by cutting backdoor and finding catch-and-shoot openings from deep makes him just as deadly at the off-guard spot.
Elijah Taylor / 5’9″ / PG / Wylie / 2021
Taylor was primed for the big game and did a great job leading his team throughout the contest. He valued the basketball and capitalized on most of his opportunities from the perimeter. Due to his past experience playing up on 17U, expect for the sophomore guard to continue to play with a boatload of confidence throughout the spring and summer.
John Achebe / 6’3″ / SF / Wylie / 2019
Achebe always positioned himself to be at the right spot at the right times. The unsigned senior took it to the South Garland defense and converted on nearly all of his opportunities inside. He led his team with 14 points in the district loss.
