McAninch, a 6-foot-4 senior who committed to Northwest Christian earlier this season, had his fair share of big plays down the stretch. The scoring guard went 7-for-7 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to keep the visiting Indians in check.
Colin Warmouth led Roseburg with 29 points, including five theee pointers, four of which came in the first half. Despite his impressive shooting, Warmouth couldn’t outlast South Eugene’s more balanced scoring attack, which prevailed 26-17 in the fourth quarter to seize the victory. Roseburg moved to 3-4 in Southwest conference play with the loss.
Here’s the top performers from Tuesday:
Cole McAninch (2019 South Eugene) – Stats: 26 points, 6 reb, 2 ast, 5 stl, 3 blk
McAninch posted perhaps his best outing of the season, scoring a team-high 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting. The senior guard simply made plays down the stretch, including a crowd-pleasing chase-down block, an old fashioned three point play at the rim, and a heat-check three-pointer, all of which came in the fourth quarter. McAninch consistently flew around on the defensive end, snatching five steals and three blocks on the night. The Axe senior bested the Indians in the fourth by making a difference on both ends of the floor, which led to a much-needed league victory.
Sam Harris (2020 South Eugene) – Stats: 11 points, 4 reb, 5 ast, 3 stl
No player was more effective as a playmaker than Harris, who finished with a game-high five assists to help give the Axe their fourth straight win. The junior was a solid facilitator and continued to shoot the ball well from deep. The 6-foot point guard also showed a terrific motor, playing a full 32 minutes for the Axe.
Colin Warmouth (2019 Roseburg) – Stats: 29 points, 4 reb, 0 ast
Roseburg’s centerpiece showed why he might be the best scorer in the SWC on Tuesday, pouring in a game-high 29 points. His buckets came from all over the floor, and the senior went 5-for-7 from beyond the arc, which consistently kept the visiting Indians within striking distance. Based on standout numbers, Warmouth is probably the current favorite to win Southwest Conference player of the year.
