Commitments
Ryland Holt (Gibson City)
Ranking: #19
Commitment: Minnesota State
D2 program Minnesota State might have got the steal of this recruiting class. They have the highest commitment from a D2 prospect significantly with the verbal of Holt. The lengthy, skilled, and athletic combo forward opened eyes in a major way in July with his play. He landed a handful of D1 offers and a boatload of D2s. In the end he went with a program where he can make an impact from day one.
Donovan Clay (Alton)
Ranking: #28
Commitment: Valparaiso
The 6’6” small forward can flat out shoot it from three off the catch, is a plus defender, and has diversified his game as the season has went along. Clay shocked many by committing to Valparaiso last Saturday night. The night before he seemed destined to go the JUCO route, but after an offer he pulled the trigger on a commitment.
Luke Yoder (Bloomington Central Catholic)
Ranking: #59
Great pick up for Illinois Wesleyan! The D3 program secured a commitment from a point guard prospect that we had graded out as a D2+ player. Did an excellent job with this travel team running the show with his distribution skills while also knocking down jumpers. Better athlete than given credit.
Jack McDonald (Geneva)
Ranking: #81
Commitment: Augustana
McDonald has been a standout as a senior. High IQ point guard that is an excellent passer. Makes sound decisions with the ball in his hands and is a lockdown perimeter defender. Augustana landed an excellent commitment here!
Austin Rager (Mt. Carmel)
Ranking: #157
Commitment: Wabash Valley
A commitment that flew a bit under the radar was Rager to Wabash Valley. This Mt. Carmel 2019 wing is a plus athlete with strength in his upper body. Really like what he brings to the table defensively. Contests shots and moves well staying in front of his man on the perimeter. Offensively can hit a mid-range jumper and created his own shot off the bounce on a few occasions with the Illinois Bears over the summer.
Bryce Hopkins (Fremd)
Ranking: #188
Commitment: University of Chicago
Skilled forward that plays within a team concept. High academic kid that is going to be an excellent fit at University of Chicago.
Recruiting Updates
Deng Reng (Wheaton North)
Ranking: #33
The Wheaton North 6’6” small forward is a rangy wing with go-go gadget type length. He changes the game defensively with his long arms. Will need to add more strength in college. Potential offensively on his jumper. On the recruiting front Reng said, “Well right now I think I’m going to cut my list down. Right now what the plan is if I don’t get a D1 offer by the end of the season I may go to JUCO for a year or two depending how I do. I was going to reach out to every division two coach that’s reached out and tell them what the plan is.” What JUCO’s are in the mix? “I’m considering Triton because my high school coaches are close with him and I trust his word and what he can do to get me to the next level.” Reng said the only D1 he is hearing from is Northern Illinois.
Mitch Mascari (Geneva)
Ranking: #35
Mascari is jumbo wing that can really score! Plus shooter with an all-around smooth offensive game. He is a super coveted D2 recruit who has taken a ton of visits over the last six months. A couple weeks ago he took a trip out west to check out three schools in Cal State San Marcos, Point Loma, and Biola. Doesn’t have any other visits scheduled at this time. What is the next step? “Get closer with the coaches that I talk too and make sure I’m getting the best fit.
Cortez Mosley (Peoria Richwoods)
Ranking: #62
Mosley is a super athletic wing with projectable physical tools. Plays above the rim in transition and has shown some growth in his skill set. He told us he will be going JUCO. Currently holds offers from Southwestern Community College, Moberly, Kirkwood, and Parkland. No leaders at this time.
Fillip Bulatovic (Maine South)
Ranking: #93
This senior is an underrated wing scorer. Skilled two guard with size for position and a plus jumper. When it comes to recruiting he says, “North Central, Augustana, Wesleyan, Benedictine have been constantly keeping in touch with me. Also UMSL a bit.”
Malcolm Miller (Shelbyville)
Ranking: #99
Miller is a broad shouldered wing with size from southern Illinois that has posted big scoring numbers. Plus perimeter shooter that has scored over 2,000 points in high school career. Miller says that Millikin, Illinois Wesleyan, and Concordia University are the schools going after him the most at this stage.
TJ Wicks (Kankakee)
Ranking: #103
Wicks is a strong four man that looks the part and is starting to produce in the second half of his senior year as we recently saw him go off against Bloom hitting jumpers and rebounding in traffic. Wicks says right now that Chicago State and Montana are the two programs showing the most interest. Also varying degrees of looks from low-major, D2, D3, and JUCO schools.
Michael Tyler (Springfield Southeast)
Ranking: #116
Tyler is a long and lengthy four man that rebounds well high pointing boards. Also a presence on the defensive end blocking shots. When we spoke with Tyler after a solid outing at the O’Fallon Shootout he said he isn’t hearing from anyone at this point. Small colleges and JUCOs would be wise invest some time here with the lack of big men on the board.
Marshall Harrison (Collinsville)
Ranking: #116
Harrison is an under recruited 6’3” shooting guard with a strong and athletic frame. Physical finishing down low. Big time rebounder for his size especially on the offensive glass. Finishes in transition and is a capable shooter off the catch. Harrison tells PHI that he has not heard from any colleges to this point. JUCO’s and D3s would be wise to take a look!
Keith Kiner (Chester)
Ranking: #123
This southern senior is an angular forward that plays with a high motor and rebounds well. Defensive presence being able to guard multiple positions and can block shots on occasion. His offensive game is starting to shine through with his improved ball handling in the open floor and even showing he can shoot some from three. He says that he is leaning toward going to JUCO route at this point with Kaskaskia being one of the leading contenders. Millikin is also making a run at his services as he visited them this past week.
Adam Taylor (Providence Catholic)
Ranking: #142
This 6’4” shooting guard that has quality size on the perimeter with the ability to shoot the basketball from deep. Improved his game scoring in transition. Taylor says that the five schools recruiting him at this point are Illinois College, Joliet Junior College, Dominican University, Olivet Nazarene, and Chatham University. He plans on visiting Dominican soon.
Drake Montgomery (South Elgin)
Ranking: #156
Montgomery is a 6’3” wing from South Elgin that excels in transition. The majority of his points come in the open floor where he is able to get to the rim and finish with excellent body control. Rebounds well from his wing position. He told us when it comes to recruiting that Lewis and UW-Parkside are talking to him and have been to games.
