Continue ReadingSaint Pauls and Red Springs met on Friday night for a game that was a sell-out before the boys even took the floor. Both communities came out and supported and the game did not disappoint, Saint Pauls took a 25-18 lead going into the half but Red Springs would continue to fight making several runs. However Saint Pauls would hold on to the lead, getting the win 61/49 over Red Springs.
Saint Pauls HS Freshman Guard Jeyvian Tatum: His numbers won’t scream at you, but he has a nice natural feel for the game at a pretty early age. He doesn’t allow defensive pressure to speed his game up, and he has good upper body strength for a player his age. One of the more impressive attributes about his game was his unselfishness, he didn’t try to force plays and did a nice job of finding teammates.
Saint Pauls HS Junior Forward Anthony Campbell: The leading scorer on the team, he plays the game in a physical manner inside the paint, scoring and rebounding at a high level. He’s about 6’2 so he is undersized for a forward but he uses his strength and athletic ability to make up for any lack of height he may have.
Saint Pauls HS Junior Guard Caleb Henderson: His aggressiveness was part of the reason why he was so successful in this game. Constantly attacking the paint, he drew a high amount of fouls which allowed him to get to the line for 14 Free throw attempts. Also was one of the guards that you could see constantly mixing it up inside the paint with bigs to get rebounds.
Saint Pauls HS Junior Guard Emonta Smith: One of the better ballhandlers on the team, he is the type of player that can handle pressure well and doesn’t turn it over when he keeps things simple. Also has nice speed that we saw him use to push the tempo on a regular basis which caused all types of problems for the defense.
Red Springs Sophomore Forward Corell Love: Brings a nice amount of energy to the team, he was one of the leading rebounder and shot blockers for the squad. He is what we would call a raw talent but you have to love what he brings to a team, you won’t need to run any plays for him at all, just letting him use his energy and instincts will allow him to make plays.
Red Springs Senior Guard Keagan Brayboy: His play in the 2nd half of the game was one of the reasons why Red Springs was able to make a run. He scored all 12 of his points in the 2nd half, finding opening in the defense as well as getting out into transition for easy buckets.
Red Springs Senior Guard Jayshawn Carthen: One of the players that looked like he could step on the floor of a college program at any given moment, he is another player who you can’t measure his impact by his stats. He is constantly applying defensive pressure and getting the offense into their sets, one thing we noticed and like was how well he communicated with his coaching staff throughout the entire game.
