Whether it’s getting his name called in the starting lineup or coming off the bench, the lanky 6-foot, 150-pound guard is getting things done. He’s getting dirty on defense, knocking down open jumpers, whatever it takes to win – all of which he helped contribute in Jefferson’s Thursday night win over Grant.
“It’s a team effort – everybody contributed,” Richmond said. “I want to thank my teammates as they had my back and everybody did good. Everybody has heart on this team and it all starts with defense. If we play like this, we’re unstoppable.”
Individually, Richmond was definitely key. With the team struggling to hit shots, the senior came into the game in the third quarter and caught fire from three-point range. Defensively, he locked down on Grant star guard Aaron Deloney, helping limit his looks from long range. And in the fourth quarter, Richmond knocked down four key free throws to help seal the victory for Jefferson. On the night he ended up with a team-high 15 points on 4-for-7 shooting, 3-for-6 from three-point range, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.
While Richmond isn’t looking past the games ahead, he is hoping to play at the next level and he noted that he’s taking things “day by day” with the recruiting process. He does note that maintains contact with Lewis & Clark head coach Tim McCrory who checks in on him with his game and his academics, but is keeping all options open until his senior season has finished.
Jefferson got revenge on Grant for their loss earlier this season. But Richmond and his teammates know that bigger things are ahead and he’s ready for it. “This gives us huge momentum – we’ve just got to keep it going,” Richmond said. “Every practice we’ve got to keep on going hard at each other because it’s going to help us in the post-season and the playoffs.”
Richmond currently ranks as the #21 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
