The all-around 6-foot-2, 165-pound combo guard has been a key part of a turnaround at Franklin in 2018-19, and the Quakers have gone from barely winning any games to making the post-season. Pomeroy earned some individual honors by making First Team All-PIL and he’s hopeful all of this will help him in his college recruitment going forward.
“I’m hopeful by getting 1st Team PIL that I will get the attention of a NAIA or D2 (program),” Pomeroy said. “Honestly I’ve focused on football my entire life except for this last year and I’m confident that I can excel at the next level, since I have so much room to grow now that basketball is my main focus.”
Pomeroy has currently been hearing from a number of Division III programs and Multnomah recently invited him for a visit. NWAC programs have also started to get in touch. He’s visited Lower Columbia for a game and Umpqua has been in contact, while Chemeketa and Clackamas have been in touch with Franklin head coach Scott Aker.
Pomeroy is still considering all options but notes that going the junior college route is certainly an option given his goals. “I’m hoping for a good JUCO where I can come in and play right away,” Pomeroy said. “That could be a springboard to get me to play at a higher level.”
As his recruitment starts to develop, Pomeroy can reflect on all that’s happened this year and while the Quakers aren’t expected to do much in the post-season – they are a #32 seed going on the road against #1 seed Lake Oswego on the road – he’s staying positive.
“We were 0-22 against 6A last season and went 14-10 in 6A this year and took 3rd place in the PIL,” Pomeroy said. “I couldn’t be happier for our team and Coach Aker. As far as the playoffs, it doesn’t matter what seed we are, every team is 0-0 and we feel when we are playing our game, we can compete with anyone.”
Pomeroy currently ranks as the #52 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
