The lanky 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing added a little more to his game this season for Roosevelt and not only has he caught more eyes, he’s also helped the team to a great year. The Roughriders are riding high into the post-season and Luttinen is excited about the possibilities.
“This is the best Roosevelt team in a long time and personally I’ve been the second leading scorer in the Metro so things have gone well for both as an individual and the team,” Luttinen said. “I’ve really improved on my mid-range and also I’ve been able to drive and get some dunks. That’s opened up things with my threes I feel like.”
In the summer, Luttinen built himself a reputation as a shooter. But expanding his game by doing more things has drawn some additional recruiting attention, of which the senior is looking to sort out once the season concludes.
“I started talking to Pepperdine throughout the season and I’m still talking to the University of Portland,” Luttinen said. “They’ve said that they want to see how I play in the playoffs and then catch up with me after the season, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m also been talking to some D-IIs and some D-IIIs but I’m trying to see if I can get a Division I right now.”
Luttinen is hopeful that any kind of decision happens later rather than sooner – largely because he’s hoping for a long post-season run. “Our first game is against West Seattle and a couple of my AAU teammates are on there,” Luttinen said. “So we definitely want to beat them and then our goal is to get to the Tacoma Dome – Roosevelt hasn’t been there in ten years I think. So our goal is to get to the Tacoma Dome our senior year.”
