While the Democrats have been at or near the top of the polls and rankings all season long, no question capturing the 6A title is the ultimate goal. Kamron Robinson has been doing his best to help the team as one of the stalwarts down low. There are very few that can hang with the strong 6-foot-8, 250-pound post who has had stretches of dominance in the paint this year.
“I feel that the season has been going pretty good,” Robinson said. “I just feel more energetic on the court. When we come in I know we can have a big presence in the paint. We haven’t met expectations yet but I still think that we can win state.”
Blessed with size, Robinson has had more energy because he’s really put some work into his body. He’s shed quite a few pounds over the past few months which has allowed him to be more mobile and have more lift – earlier this season he threw down two dunks on one game, and a video clip of the shocked reaction of teammate Marcus Tsohonis has been a meme of sorts within the Demos circles.
Because of his combination of size and skills, college programs have been watching his development. Coaches from Eastern Washington, Portland, and Portland State have been seen on the sidelines of Jefferson games and while Robinson notes that they’re not really talking to him, they have been in communcation with his AAU program, the Rose City Rebels through Kendrick Williams.
Recruiting is definitely on the backburner for Robinson though as there are bigger fish to fry. Jefferson wants a state title and Robinson feels that a couple of their big victories the second half of this season over Rainier Beach and Grant are the type that will propel them toward the ultimate prize.
“I feel like those two wins have pushed us to finisht he season strong – it gives us confidence,” Robinson said. “I’m just trying to win state these next couple of years – that’s all I’m focused on.”
Robinson currently ranks as the #7 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
