The 6-foot-2 guard, who has been a versatile contributor throughout the season for the Cardinals, discussed his overall game and much more during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: You made some really good passes today. Some more simple than others, but each effective. Is that an underrated aspect of you overall game?
SM: “My shot wasn’t really falling today, but I still feel like I can impact the game by playmaking and getting others involved. I feel like I can get my teammates involved. Get them going. Some of our guys were starting off slow, so I was just trying to get them going. It’s a team effort for us to win.”
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your game?
SM: “I think I’m a guard that can shoot, play make, rebound, and defend pretty well. I think I need to work on my ball-handling a little bit, and my three ball most definitely.”
PH: I noticed that almost every one on your team used at least one pump fake today. Is that a point of emphasis for you guys?
SM: “Coach emphasizes that a lot in practice. When we miss them, he stops practice, tells us to jump-stop pump fake. At the beginning of the season, we weren’t really following through like that, but as the season came down towards the end, we started keying in on that. Just pump faking. And it works a lot of the times too.”
PH: What’s your recruitment been like?
SM: So far, I just have an offer from Howard. We still talk a few times a week. I haven’t visited recently, but I’ve been on campus a few times. I went to a game early in the season back in October, and they’ve reached out to me to come out to one of their games during the postseason so I’ll make sure to attend.
PH: What’s the goal that you and your teammates have set?
SM: Our goal is to just win it all, but we know that it takes one play at a time. We’re not in a rush. We know that if we play well as a team, good things will happen. That’s all we’ve been focusing on.
