The Purdue Boilermakers were the first team to offer Walton and he visited the school last month.
“What stood out was mostly the experience of what is behind the scenes of a program,” Walton said. “Like what the players do before the game, after the game, and during the game. During the game the fans were intense, the building was really loud, and I like the way they play at Purdue. In their offense they said they value shooters and you can see how they like to shoot threes a lot.”
Purdue Head Coach Matt Painter was the first to offer Walton
“I like Coach Painter, he seems like a really good coach,” Kerwin said. “We are still developing more of a relationship but I like the way he coaches his players.”
Kerwin was also visited Minnesota when they played Iowa.
“Going into the season I honestly wasn’t sure what Minnesota was going to be like but they have proven to be better than what I thought they were,” Kerwin stated. “Amir Coffey, I really like him. They play together a lot and I really like that. They are much better than I thought they were going to be.
“I really like how intense Pitino is. He is really intense. But like with Purdue Coach Painter, I am still trying to develop a relationship with Coach Pitino.”
Walton feels his Hopkins team is playing well but could be even better.
“I would like to describe our season as, it could be better because I think as a team we could be better as coming into the season I thought we were going to be really good but I don’t think we have reached our full potential yet,” Walton explained.
“Honestly we need to talk to each other and play as one on defense. That’s what we need to do if we are going to be definitely the best.
“I think myself I have had a solid year. I think I could be better with become more of a two way guy. I need to be more efficient in knocking down shots as I’m more focused on being efficient as compared to scoring a bunch of points.”
The field of talent in Class AAAA hoops is wide open.
“We are trying to win a state championship so every single game we have to be prepared,” Kerwin stated. “Every team has a chance to be us but if we play together like we can beat everyone, than we will beat everyone. It’s all about preparation for us.”
Kerwin has grown another inch or maybe two but he is also physically getting much stronger. Good weight has been added to his shoulders, chest, core, and arms as Walton starts to look more and more like a player at the next level. When it comes to the next level(s) who does Walton look up to?
“I would say Damian Lillard,” Walton responded quickly. “I love his drive. His mental drive and what he can do. He can shoot threes, shoot from mid-range, and take it to the basket. He is also the leader of the team.”
