The talented 6-foot-4, 170-pound wing is determined to get Cleveland into the post-season and he’s doing whatever he can to keep the Warriors in contention. Over the past five games he’s stopped it up on the offensive end, averaging over 20 points per game and with a 27-point outing on Tuesday night, propelled Cleveland to a huge win on the road over Franklin, pulling the Warriors within one game of third place and an automatic berth in the OSAA 6A playoffs.
“We’re at the end with our final strides here, so we’re trying to finish out strong,” Rodrick said. “We had some tough losses but it’s been good to get on the right track hopefully we can sneak our way in there.”
Cleveland has needed each and every one of Rodrick’s points in this last stretch of games. After a four-game losing streak – including two losses to last-place PIL squads Wilson and Madison – the chips were looking really down. But since then the Warriors have strung together three straight wins – all on the road – and even if they can’t land third place in league, Cleveland’s ranking of #31 may very well get them into the post-season.
While Rodrick has been a huge part of all of this it’s definitely been a team effort. “I’m definitely relied on a lot to score and rebound,” Rodrick said. “But we’ve got a lot more guys that can score the ball actually.”
On the recruiting front, Rodrick noted that he’s still hearing from schools such as Southern Oregon, Pacific (Ore.), Pacific Lutheran, Iola, Lewis-Clark State, and George Fox. But some new Division II and NAIA schools have gotten in touch including Humboldt State, Concordia, Menlo College, University of Sioux Falls, and University of Maine-Fort Kent. He’s already planning on taking a visit to Humboldt State in the spring but is keeping all options open as Cleveland makes their final push.
“There are some new schools in the mix and I think that if I keep playing well I’ll keep on picking up interest,” Rodrick said. “So we’ll see how it goes – right now I’m just focused day by day on winning the rest of our games and seeing what our team has to offer. We need to finish strong and win on out.”
Rodrick currently ranks as the #27 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
