Jacobi Wood (Cleveland) played in front of Penn State Associate Head Coach Keith Urgo Friday night. The Nittany Lions have not offered, but will maintain contact heading into Wood’s 17u AAU season.
Jacobi also has strong interest from Iowa State, Dayton, Central Florida, and Missouri.
Mid-majors are very, very strong on Jacobi.
Belmont, Rice, Wofford, Murray State, Lipscomb, Chattanooga, Canisius and James Madison are all in, per source.
Cleveland High sophomore Grant Hurst shot 5-8 from deep Friday night and Penn State’s coach acknowledged Hurst’s shooting after the game. Of course, that is merely a comment, but Hurst was noticed.
Cleveland High senior Isaiah Johnson was featured Friday, as Chicago State is now actively recruiting Isaiah. Chicago State Assistant Coach Rodell Davis is a first year coach under Coach Irvin, also a first year coach. Coach Davis and Coach Irvin are longtime acquaintances with Cleveland High Assistant Coach Reggie Tucker.
Dalton Marsh (Red Boiling Springs) took an unofficial visit to Missouri Western State Saturday.
“He really enjoyed it, the campus, facilities , coaches,” shared Marsh’s father Jason Marsh. “We plan on getting him out there again for another visit.”
Missouri Western State is where Franklin star Reese Glover will play next season. Marsh is merely a 2020 prospect while Glover is signed and ready to go after he graduates.
Alec Kegler (Clarksville Northeast) had a recruiting guest in December. Morehead State dropped by to see him, though Kegler was injured at the time. Kegler came back January 4th. Both he and the team are playing great, which is fortunate because the Eagles sputtered in November.
Kegler picked up an offer from Martin Methodist. He is currently one of the most overlooked players in the state. The injury hurt his fall recruitment, but the former Class AAA All-Tournament wing is a DII superstar capable of making a D1 starting lineup by his sophomore season.
Harry Lackey (Brentwood) was featured a week ago. Of note, Davidson, Western Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Wofford, and Lipscomb all have an awareness of Harry Lackey.
Brandon Brown (White Station) might be the most improved player in the state. Brown helped bring down Memphis East in January. It was the first time Memphis East lost to a Memphis team in three years.
Brown maintains constant contact from several junior colleges.
“Clarendon, Walters State, and North Arkansas,” shared Brandon Brown Wednesday. “And Chattanooga State.”
New Name
Jon Turner (South Gibson) is a classic big in the Class of 2020. Turner stands 6-foot-8 and Lipscomb expressed a little early interest. Turner’s recruitment is in its infancy, but trust me it will be rachetted up in April.
Turner will be playing for one of the top 3 AAU programs in the state. Visibility will not be a concern.
