Prospect Update: Zach Huff (2020)
Don Bosco junior Zach Huff recently wrapped up a stellar junior season, and is set to make a big impact with one of Iowa’s best grassroots teams this spring.
Huff, a 6-foot-1 guard, will play with Pure Prep 17U, alongside a slew of other talented guys, including nationally renowned forward Xavier Foster.
A skilled shooter with a combo-guard’s skill-set, Huff gained a lot of momentum this past season as a leader of the Dons.
“This year, I definitely needed to step up and be a leader of the team. And I had to score a lot more. So, I worked to become a better scorer for my team, and continued to work on my ball-handling and play-making,” said Huff.
As a sophomore, Huff was a role player for the Dons, this past season, he was a main component along with senior Jack Kelley.
Huff was disappointed in how the season ended, a tough district loss to Dunkerton. But says he played well this season while averaging 15.1 points on some terrific shooting.
“I think we had a good season overall, and I don’t like how it ended, I think we could have gone farther,” said Huff. “I thought I had a good junior season, I just didn’t like how it ended.”
Huff’s strong junior season has helped to generate some college interest. He says Morningside, Briar Cliff, Coe and Mount Mercy have shown interest. He’s also been told a Division II school in Wisconsin has been asking about him.
This summer will be big for Huff’s recruitment and skill-development.
“My goals for the offseason is to just improve in everything and get into the weight-room to get stronger and faster,” said Huff. “And I just want to get a lot more exposure, some college looks, maybe some offers.”
