Prospect Spotlight: Ty Walker (2021)
A 5-foot 10 combo-guard, Ty Walker has been enjoying a breakout season for Des Moines Roosevelt this season, and could be the future of the program.
The Roughriders’ most consistent player and leading scorer this season, Walker is an adept shooter who can handle it, too. He’s a team-first guy who prides himself of being able to do whatever is needed of him to win.
“I’m more of a jump-shooter, I’ve been working on that all my life. I feel like I’m a high IQ player and I like to talk on the floor and play good defense,” said Walker.
“I feel like I’ve played a consistent role this season. I’m just a guy who’s there to do whatever coach needs. If we need a big shot or a big play, I’m there to step up.”
It’s been an up and down season for Walker and the Roughriders. After a hot 2-0 start, they dropped 12 straight. They’ve won three of five since.
Now, despite the lackluster 5-12 record, Walker and Co. are confident.
“We’re starting to get some guys back and we’re just getting better. I feel like we’re just getting tournament ready now,” said Walker.
“As a team, we know we’re going to be the underdogs, everyone is going to be sleeping on us. But we know what we’re capable of, and we know what we can do. We just got to work together to prove what we can do.”
In less than two months, Walker will embark on a 16U season with Kingdom Hoops. It’ll be one of the state’s best grassroots teams.
“Goals I have for this summer are to just prove what I can do, a lot of people don’t know who I am,” said Walker. “So, I’m trying to get my name out there and just prove what I can do.”
