Also, after watching him, I thought man this kid is good, I have to find out more about him. And, that he needs to be on local colleges radars immediately.
Photo Credit: Sandusky RegisterThe 6’0” guard does a solid job of playing on ball and off the ball. He has a smooth stroke, and a nice pull-up shot. The junior can get to the rim with either hand, and finish through contact. A nice release at the free-throw line, you won’t want him getting their often. Solid athleticism and court quickness, has the skill of being a problem in transition.
A qualifying GPA of 3.0 and a noticeable student of the game, as you can catch him often taking in knowledge from the coach. Tahj was the victim of an untimely injury, but he battled back early and told me that it made him “hungry and ready to “take on the challenge” of battling back from injury.
Leading Sandusky to a six seed in the district tourney, Staveskie did numbers. Averaging about 17 PPG, five rebounds and five assists a game. Also a factor on the defensive side, tabbing two steals a game.
Catching Up With Tahj:
Speaking with the stud guard, he told me that a part of his game he wants to work on is his on-ball defense, and extending his range.
Also saying that the best part of his game, is picking apart the defense and taking what they give him and reading the game. Which, I 100% agree with off of my evaluation.
After having to miss AAU last season with his injury, Staveskie is looking to go out and show everyone he’s one of the top guards in his class. Playing with the Rebels out of Cleveland, he’s also looking to add some muscle and improve all-around.
Tahj told me he’s planning to give baseball a try this year, which is excellent. Multi-sport athletes are taken over single-sport athletes majority of the time, so he’s getting ahead of the game there.
The Blue Streak was First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District in his area, and is hoping to pick up another accolade by the time state teams roll around.
Takeaway:
The top D3 coaches should be all over the junior guard, as that could be a potential steal in the right environment. Staveskie May fit best on the D2 side of things when it’s all said and done. A player we will continue to watch over his final year, and this AAU season.
