Some may call it a machine, but the truth of the matter is all happens with the players and this season Keegan Shivers has been one of the critical gears. The tough 6-foot-4, 190-pound junior has been doing a little bit of everything for the Wildcats – and the mentality comes from a desire to keep improving.
“I think every game is a challenge – we just look for the next game,” Shivers said. “We just need to focus on the opponent that we’ll face next. There are a lot of areas we still need to get better in, so every day we need to come out in practice and get better.”
Shivers has largely played more up front this season, but he’s an all-around performer. On the offensive end, he can score in the post but can also step out and hit the three. He’s a physical player who will battle on the boards and on defense, and could very well be categorized as one of those classic “glue guys” that are critical to winning games.
“It’s been really fun – I love playing with my team,” Shivers said. “It’s fun coming out out every day and playing with them, just getting better with them.”
While he’s just a junior, Shivers has given some thought about playing basketball at the next level. Calling it a “dream of mine”, he’s played AAU basketball with Nike Team Northwest and is completely open to any recruiting interest that may come his way. “Any place that wants me, fits me – I just love to play basketball,” Shivers said. “Anywhere, really. We’ll see what comes this summer, I’m excited.”
What Shivers is also excited about is another deep run in the playoffs for Wilsonville. Obviously the ultimate goal is to recapture the 5A title but first things first, it’s Crescent Valley at home on Friday night. “We’re just looking at the next game,” Shivers said. “I just want to get better with my team and play our best ball.”
Shivers currently ranks as the #63 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
