Prospect Spotlight: Jevin Sullivan (2022)
It’s still early, but this year’s freshman class is shaping up to be a really good one. North Polk’s 6-foot guard Jevin Sullivan will be among those who could make it a great class.
A pure scorer, with adept handles and a sweet stroke, Sullivan considers himself to be an offensive threat first and foremost. He’s working now to diversify his offensive skill-set.
“My biggest thing is just being a shot-maker, so pull-up jumpers and then catch-and-shoot is the biggest thing I’m doing for my team right now,” said Sullivan. “I’m trying to get some more stuff going into the lane, but as a freshman, that’s a little tough for me to do.”
Sullivan is focused on being the best scorer he can be, and although his handles are a strong suit, he say he prefers playing the shooting guard role rather than the PG.
“I don’t really see myself becoming point guard,” he said. “I do see myself being the leader of a team, but as much as I can be off-ball and I can be the guy who gets the ball instead of passing the ball, that’s my ideal situation.”
It’s rare for freshman, especially at the 3A level, to get the opportunity to play with the varsity, let alone make a major impact. Sullivan is doing just that, though, averaging 7.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
“It’s been a really cool experience, just coming into the season I had the right mind-set. But I’m just trying to keep my head up and not rest on my laurels,” said Sullivan. “I’m just looking to keep playing and keep getting better.”
This spring and summer, Sullivan will be running with Beyond Ball’s 15U squad. He says the objective is to work hard, improve and generate some college attention.
“I’m really excited for the AAU season, I always have a lot of fun with it, said Sullivan. “And I definitely want to get some looks this summer, and I’m going to work as hard as I can possibly work.”
