Prospect Spotlight: Jaleque Dunson (2020)

A 6-foot-3 guard with a multitude of skill-sets, Jaleque Dunson is an established top prospect in Iowa's 2020 class, and projects to have a big summer ahead.

The Sioux City East wing is a guard and a forward, he can play almost anywhere he's needed. The size, length and skill is what makes him such a threat.

“I think I'm unique because I can so many different positions. I can play the one, the two, the three,” said Dunson. “I think ball-handling is the main thing I need to work on. I got a little bit of a shot, I can get to the hoop. I think I'm just an overall player.”

With the Black Raiders last season, the then-sophomore averaged 6.5 points per game. This season, his role has increased dramatically. Dunson is averaging 16.2 points for the state's fifth-ranked 4A squad.

“Last year, I was more of a sixth or seventh-man, and I had a little bit of a role in what we were doing. This year, I've stepped up a lot, I'm a starter. They depend on me a lot, I have to play a lot of defense and score. My role just got way bigger this year, I had to step up and that's what I did,” said Dunson.

“We're hoping to win these next few regular season games we have, and then we want to make it to state, and hope for the best if we get there.”

When his season is finished, it'll be club ball season for Dunson, who says he's playing with Pure Prep 17U this spring and summer. “They've been doing a good job of trying to get my name out there,” he said.

NAIA and Division II interest has started coming in for Dunson, he mentioned Morningside, Briar Cliff and Truman State have been talking to him.

He could be a Division I target by summer's end.

“I'm hoping this summer I can play as well as I've been playing,” Dunson said. “And hopefully get my name out there a little bit more, get some offers, and we'll see what I can do.”
