Prospect Spotlight: Carson Toebe (2022)
Clear Lake will play in a Substate final on Monday night against Charles City, you can bet the Lions will rely heavily on freshman Carson Toebe in that one.
The 6-foot-1 point guard has been one of the better freshman in Iowa this season, and has helped lead Clear Lake to a sterling 22-0 record as they head into the big game.
It’s been Toebe’s ability to distribute and setup teammates for success that’s been the driving force behind his rookie season success.
“I have a pretty good passing ability, that’s one of my better skill-sets is passing, and I feel like I have pretty good court-vision,” said Toebe. “I’ve been shooting the ball well from outside, and I’ve been helping the team with controlling the offense, slowing it down and getting guys open looks.”
After losing 30-plus points per game scorer Zach Lester to graduation last season, there was a big void that needed to be filled. That’s when Toebe stepped in. And although he’s not getting 30 points a night, his 10.6 points and 5.5 assists have been supremely beneficial.
“I worked hard and got the spot in the first week of practice,” Toebe said. “And we’ve just been working hard all season, and every game we take it one play at a time.”
He added: “If we can get to The Well, I feel like the energy we have and the way we play, we could have a good shot at a state title.”
After his freshman season is over, Toebe says he’ll again play with the Iowa Barnstormers. It could be an eventful 15U season for the skilled point guard.
“The Barnstormers really provide a lot of opportunities for us,” Toebe said. “And so I feel like if I can get out there and do my best, and our team is playing well, we could all get some looks this summer.”
