LA CANADA, CA—Each and every season there are a number of late-bloomers who really emerge during their junior season—and one of those examples is Andre Henry of St. Francis High School.
Henry has always been on the radar playing for Robert Icart’s outstanding program BTI Hoops, but now the label “prospect” is evolving into “player.”
The gangly Henry has super long arms, much-improved ball skills, and is becoming bouncier with each season. He has the ability to play both guard spots due to his feel for the game and the ability to score and facilitate with aplomb.
“I’ve definitely have improved my ability to attack off the dribble and I’m getting more consistent scoring in the paint,” explains Henry.
Henry will be one of the more heavily watched prospects in So-Cal this spring and summer.During Henry’s game against Marina High School in the 1st Round of the CIFSS Playoffs, Henry impacted the game in a variety of ways. He got off to a slow start as his jump shot was inconsistent. However, in the 2nd half he his jump shot was on fire which opened up numerous driving lanes and passing opportunities for open teammates.
He changes speeds very well and has active hands at both ends of the floor. Although his game has improved immensely in the past year—which not surprisingly attracted coaches from UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton to his game—Henry knows he needs to continue to work on his game.
“I definitely need to improve on my left hand while attacking and continue to improve my strength while finishing in the paint,” notes Henry.
Henry has all the physical tools to be a Division 1 player, but it’s his leadership and willingness to make the big plays in crucial situations which will attract more and more college coaches this spring and summer.
