Dye is also searching for an opportunity to play basketball after his time at Longmont High is done. Longmont Trojans head coach Jeff Kloster thinks he’s likely to get one, but Dye’s work is far from done.
Not playing club basketball has caused Dye to fly under the radar, and adding that to his resume could be a big step in the right direction.
“For him to play at the next level, number one: he’ll need to get noticed,” Kloster said. “Another thing is he’ll need to continue to develop his perimeter game and his shooting ability. I think he’s close. He’s a big guy but at 6-foot-4, he’ll have to have more of a perimeter and we’ll be counting on him to keep working on that 15-18-footer and 3-pointer.”
Dye is currently the best post threat on the No. 2-ranked team in Colorado’s Class 4A and the classification’s defending state champions. He is the only junior among the Trojans’ six top scorers, and is averaging 8.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals. Dye sees the floor well and is a solid passer for a player at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds.
Dye is shooting 55 percent from the field and has made three of the 10 shot attempts from behind the 3-point arc this season. As he continues to develop his perimeter game, this summer will be a big one for Dye both in that regard and whether or not he decides to put himself in a position to get more exposure.
