The Braves got off to a quick start, and never looked back. Leading 22-13 after a quarter, the early start propelled them the whole game. Caleb Steele had eight of his 10 points in the opening period.
In the second quarter, Olentangy got out to a 31-14 lead. Allowing just 14 first half points, the Braves didn’t allow Harding to get hardly anything going.
After three quarters, the lead would increase to 41-22. Looking to be over by now, Sean Marks started the fourth quarter with four quick points. Extending the lead to a 61-30 final. Dominate showing on both ends for the Braves.
Olentangy went on to improve to 12-8 on the season. Also, Marion Harding falls to 7-12 on the campaign.
FIVE Game Takeaways:
1. Sean Marks is one of the best 2019 guards in the area. The Olentangy Senior stands under six foot tall, but that means nothing at all. Marks plays a lot bigger then his size, at all times. Also, committed to play basketball at Ohio Dominican next year, college coaches believe so too. The quick guard is able to get in the lane with ease, and create space off the dribble. With 14 points tonight, the strong guard spread it out over three quarters. Knocking down threes, getting to the rack, and drawing fouls was the name of the game for Marks. However, this was just another strong showing by Marks.
2. Jake Elmore can really shoot it. As a whole, Olentangy had the three ball dropping. But, Jake Elmore was responsible for almost half of them. Hitting five three-pointers, of the Braves 11, was Elmore. The Junior was a game changer, a big part of multiple runs. All of his 15 points coming from behind the line, Elmore had the green light all night. Also, a quick release is to help, as the 6’1 guard let it fly with any space. The high-scoring man in a blowout win for the Braves.
3.Harding, on a down year, just didn’t have the team to compete. Harding has a couple solid prospects, led by Mitch Myers, but just didn’t have the roster to compete. Olentangy was able to out play them tonight, making it look rather easy. The Braves made it tough all night for Harding on the offensive side. You just can’t have as many 35-plus second possessions that Harding did on the clock, and look to hang around. Mitch Myers is a solid player, on a Harding team that is having a down year.
4. Olentangy has great chemistry. From the opening tip until the end, Olentangy played together well on the court. With Sean Marks orchestrating things, the Braves never stop moving the ball. Also, they seem to know exactly who to get the ball, and roll off screens to perfection.
5. Ayden Rich is an above average defender for a sophomore.
With a couple steals and a block tonight, Rich was the best defender for Marion Harding. The Sophomore is bouncy, with solid side to side speed to stay with ball handlers. Rich does a solid job of committing to his man with some tough on ball pressure. Not giving up on plays is a strength for the 6’2 Prexie. Which, you don’t see often from younger players. Still a ways to go on the offensive end, Rich is already there on defense.
