Another great group of games and prospects this past Friday and Saturday. Here we break down the players in attendance in O’Fallon Shootout: 2020 Evaluations!
PG Ray’Sean Taylor (Collinsville)
Taylor lived up to his latest top 15 ranking with his play on Friday night. Super athletic point guard who can score at all three levels. Acrobatic at the rim making difficult layups around defenders. Terrific body control finishing with either hand. Floater is another major weapon. Range on his three point shot. Good pull up jump shooter with consistent mechanics. Made several sweet passes in transition including a few his teammates dropped. He went for 31 points (11-23 FG) and 10 rebounds.
C Keydrian Jones (Collinsville)
Jones is a big bodied post at 6’6”. For how big he is the junior actually moves very well and has nimble footwork around the hoop. His two scores came on a right handed hook and an offensive rebound put back. Jones missed quite a few bunnies in this one. Like what he brings to the table as an area rebounder. He had 4 points and 6 rebounds.
PG Cawhan Smith (Collinsville)
Smith is a quick and shifty point guard that plays with a lot of speed. Quality passer that was a good decision maker recording a 6/1 assist/turnover ratio. Got in the lane quite a bit for acrobatic finishes and a tip in. Hit a baseline jumper as well. Finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 dimes.
SG Moory Woods (Alton)
Woods is a 6’4” shooting guard that had a couple sweet finishes around the hoop. One on a reverse layup and another on a back cut. Also connected on a three off the catch. Potential to be a breakout candidate this summer with his size and athleticism. Finished with 9 points.
PG DJ Steward (Whitney Young)
Steward played like the high-major player that he is on Saturday. The ultra-smooth combo guard didn’t shoot it particularly well from deep going only 1-7 from beyond the arc, but he went to work in the lane! Excellent at manipulating ball screens and setting his opponents up off the bounce to get what he wants out of each situation. Lived in the lane all night where he finishes with an array of acrobatic layups including up and unders along with and-1s through traffic. So fast with the ball in the open floor just flying down the floor! Got on the offensive glass for a few second chance points. He was very impressive defensively using his length to get steals and alter shots. Combination of quickness and length are going to allow him to be a plus defender. He had 23 points (11-22 FG), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.
PG Tyler Beard (Whitney Young)
Beard was extremely efficient in the Dolphins win against Iowa City West. The state’s #3 junior prospect is your classic tough Chicago point guard that has strength and athleticism. He is a plus pull up mid-range shooter knocking down a pair of them. Powerful getting to the rack both in transition and off the bounce in the half court. Burst and power with the ball in his hands. Beard went for 14 points (7-11 FG).
PG Elliot Sieger (Whitney Young)
Sieger has gone from star to role player over the last year, but he has seemed to accept his new position. He has gotten stronger and embraced his role as a bench defender being scrappy on the perimeter getting deflections and steals. Had a transition layup along with a couple of free throws for 4 points.
SG Nate Winslow (Triad)
Winslow has a wiry frame and good size at 6’4”. Plus shooter from deep with a clean looking shot. Also had a layup off a curl. Sound defensive rebounder for a wing. Winslow scored 10 points and grabbed 8 boards in a low scoring game.
SG Luke Cox (Triad)
Cox is a two guard that can slash as he put in a runner and also hit on a pull up three. Was inefficient with his shots going only 4-16 from the field and 1-8 from three for 11 points.
PG Amarey Wills (O’Fallon)
Wills is a 6’0” combo guard that brings athleticism to the table. He attacks with reckless abandon. Won a decent amount off the bounce. Needs to be more efficient with his shots. Scored 8 points against Belleville West.
SG Jaden Snodgrass (Springfield Lanphier)
Snodgrass has nice size at 6’3” along with raw strength. Was a bit wild at times with the shot selection. Has potential as a shooter knocking down a mid-range shot along with a three. Decent wing rebounder. Finished with 6 points and 5 rebounds.
PG Alec McGinnis (Normal West)
This junior point guard was a plus shooter from deep connecting on 3-7 from beyond the arc. He was most effective off the catch, but also mixed in a baseline jumper as well on his way to 11 points.
PF Sincere Callwood (Simeon)
Callwood is a junk yard dog post. Strong and physical post that gets on the boards for put backs and also had a sweet high/low finish. Effective on the offensive glass. He finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds.
