North Meck and West Charlotte reached the I-Meck 4A Conference Championship Game, with wins in the semifinals at Hopewell HS, last night.
The top two seeds in the I-Meck 4A Conference will square off tomorrow night at 7:30 tomorrow night at Hopewell High School for the conference tournament championship.
West Charlotte, the conference’s number two seed, defeated Vance High School 64-58 last night to reach the finals.
Patrick Williams, pictured above, is a 6-8 230, forward, who has signed with Florida State. He led the Lions last night with 19 points.
This young man is an impressive athlete, with major ups and strength. He had 4-5 jams, in Monday’s quarterfinal win over Lake Norman, that would have been under consideration for Sports Center’s Top Ten, had the ESPN crew been at Hopewell on Monday.
Cartier Jernigan, a 6-1 senior combo guard, added 16 points in last night’s win over Mallard Creek.
He’s a very fast athlete, who has a solid shooting stroke. He will also be a good defender at USC-Upstate, where he will play collegiately for head coach, David Dickerson, who played his college basketball at the University of Maryland with the late Len Bias.
Quinton Thomas, a 6-4 180, senior, small forward, is another outstanding player for West Charlotte. Thomas, a high flying, slammer, jammer, added nine points last night. This very talented player led the way in Monday’s quarterfinal win over Lake Norman High School, of Mooresville, with 25 points.
In that quarterfinal win, Quinton showed his improving shooting range, by knocking down two treys and a couple of mid-range jumpers as well.
Vance High School fell behind West Charlotte 19-7, by the end of the first quarter last night, but cut the deficit to 34-26 at the half. The Cougars fell behind 46-34 after three quarters, but then stormed back with a 24 point fourth quarter to cut the final margin to six, at 64-58.
Brandon Beidleman, the Cougar’s 5-10 senior, point guard, led his team with 13 points last night, while
Daniel Ransom, a 6-5 200, forward, scored 10 points for Vance. Courtney Blake added nine points for Vance, which also got eight points each from Ralph Black and Daniel Sanford.

Other outstanding players in the I-Meck 4A Conference include: Justin Taylor, a 6-3 guard for Mallard Creek, which lost to North Meck last night, Brice Williams, of Hopewell, a 6-7, senior, small forward, who has signed with UNC-Charlotte and 6-0 senior guard Zach Shulz, who scored 25 points for Lake Norman, against West Charlotte on Monday.
