Teams are hoping to either continue ascending into the postseason or that the playoffs can bring about a new sense of energy.
Here are the teams of the week from Class B last week:
Shiloh Christian
The Skyhawks earned the best win of the week, beating Four Winds/Minnewaukan 62-61 in overtime Saturday, getting key contributions from Trey Brunelle and Matthew Reep along the way. This is a big win for Shiloh as it gives the Skyhawks a win over another state-ranked team. That kind of win could come into play should they make the state tournament and seedings are decided.
Bishop Ryan
The Lions made quite the statement last week, beating state-ranked and region rival Rugby, 70-60. The score doesn’t represent how lopsided the game was though as Bishop Ryan was up by 20 at halftime. Ben Bohl and Mason Hedberg combined to score 62 points and Hedberg hauled in 15 rebounds. The Lions finished the regular season 17-2 and head into postseason play with the look of a state title contender. If they are to get that far, they’ll likely have to beat Rugby again.
Thompson
The Tommies earned another hard-fought win over state-ranked Hillsboro/Central Valley last week, beating the Burros 71-69 in overtime. Marcus Hughes scored 14 points while Hayden Overby was his usual productive self, finishing with 20 points and nine rebounds. Thompson will go into the postseason as the top team in Region 2 and should they advance far enough, the Tommies will likely get a third contest against the Burros – with the state-tournament berth on the line.
