Continue ReadingNC public schools have been showing this season that they have the good to runs with just about anybody they are matched up with. So let’s take a quick look at some of the teams that have been playing at a high level and who we expect to make deep runs in the playoffs.
South Central HS (22-1): Anytime you have a public school program that is nationally ranked, you have to be impressed with everyone involved. Coach Cherry has done an outstanding job with his squad and they have been rolling this year with their only loss come to nationally ranked Ranney HS by 5 in December. Senior Guard Shykeim Phillips and Junior Dayron Sharpe are two of the headliners but the team is deep with talent. Senior Guard Jahzeer Baker has turned plenty of heads with his play, averaging double figures each night, while Senior Wing Shy’Quan Jones is a player that we like due to his height, athleticism and upside.
Farmville Central (23-0): The Jaguars have been absolutely rolling this season and look like one of the favorites to win the 2A State Championship. 2020 Guard Justin Wright and 2021 Guard Terquavion Smith have proven themselves as legit D1 prospects and are one of the top backcourts in the state. Senior Forward Dyquavis Wilkins has stepped up in a nice way, as well as Junior Guard Samage Teel who has put together quite a few good games of his own.
Cox Mill HS (22-1): This is a team we have seen year after year simply winning state championships and still they are a team that gets overlooked at times. Senior Guard Wendell Moore who is a McDonalds All-American has been usual productive self at 26 Points and 8 Rebounds a night. While Guard Cody Cline and Forward Caleb Stone-Carrawell have both played well and provide the energy and rebounding for the team. With their only loss coming to nationally ranked Scott County HS, you can see why we feel they have a chance to 3 peat this season.
Winston Salem Prep (18-4): Not much of a surprise with this one, WSP has been a team that has been very successful over the years with competing and winning state championships. Each year they have players move on to the D1, D2 and D3 levels, and play a pretty strong schedule which only helps to prepare them come playoff time. Senior Guard Chaz Gwyn is one of the players on their team that can absolutely fill it up, which was demonstrated with a recent 30 point performance.
Millbrook HS (23-0): They have been absolutely dominant this season with a record of 23-0 going into their matchup with Broughton HS. They have a team with multiple players that can get the job done, including Senior Guards Phillip Burwell, Collin Lewis and Isaiah Lewis as well as some inside post presence from star sophomore Forward Will Felton who is putting together just under a double/double each night.
