McKenzie Lucas King Eats for Lunch and Dinner, Wins Semifinal
The McKenzie Marksman buried 100 three-pointers on his lunch break hours before burying Summertown High.
Before noon, Lucas King of McKenzie High spent his lunchtime knocking down shots (see percentage below right). After the game Lucas King and @PrepHoopsTN shared a phone conversation regarding the shooting tradition and his basketball victory.
Do you normally shoot baskets during lunch?
Oh, yeah. Everyday.
When did you start doing that?
I have been doing it all school year.
What are you trying to accomplish with the lunch shooting?
Just be able to knock down. We need a knockdown shooter sometimes. I am trying to be that sometimes.
How many do you usually take?
I usually make 25 free throws and I will make 100 three’s. I shoot about, depends on the day, maybe 200 shots at the most. It usually takes me 200 to make that many.
What is your usual shooting percentage for that shootaround?
Low 60’s.
Why did you shoot better today?
I was just focused. We had a game today. I am usually more focused on gamedays.
How was the game?
It was good. We won by 23. It was fun. It was a good game.
Who played well for you guys?
Our post did really good. Ben Austin. He probably had 25 and 10 rebounds again. Our other post, he probably had at least 7 blocks.
It was all around team good effort.
What did your coach tell you after the win?
He was happy we won because now we got a substate game. He told us we have to keep pushing to get to state. That is our goal.
Lucas King scored 13 points in the win on 62.5% shooting (5-8).
