MVP – Coleton Taylor 2019 Marietta forward
Marietta senior Coleton Taylor was doing it all for the Indians on Saturday night. He finished with 24 points, 19 of which came in the first half alone. He was nearly unstoppable for the Tish defense and once he had trouble scoring in the lane, he hit shots from the 3-point line.
Best passer – Zane Nutter 2019 Marietta point guard
Zane Nutter has elite court vision and open up the scoring game for his teammates by making sharp, accurate passes in the shooting pocket. He understands his teammates’ tendencies in transition well and relies heavily on his chemistry to find teammates, rather than his eyes.
Best player in a loss – Kasai Burton 2022 Tishomingo point guard
Kasai Burton was a high point for the Tishomingo Indians on Saturday night. The freshman dropped 19 points and passed the ball around well. He is a crafty finisher at the rim and can create his own shot and finish it. Additionally, he has superb range for a young player, especially with his quick release.
Most aggressive inside player – Coleton Taylor 2019 Marietta forward
Coleton Taylor dominated the inside game Saturday night and made it look easy in the process. He led Marietta in scoring with 24 points and was a force to be reckoned with. Tishomingo was unable to find a viable answer for his inside presence all night.
Most versatile player – Zane Nutter 2019 Marietta point guard
Zane Nutter does it all from the one spot on the floor on both ends. The most eye-catching piece of his game was his rebounding ability. Most guard don’t bother theirselves with hustling to get boards, but Nutter was a threat to get second-chance opportunities all night. He scored with the ball, created his own shot, played great defense, and led the floor with the ball all night.
Best finisher – Jackson Lawley 2021 Tishomingo point guard
Jackson Lawley was a difficult player to limit for Marietta all night. He finished with 13 points, mostly from shots he took into the lane to get a bucket. He is especially crafty at the rim and is a great finisher.
Best scorer from the dribble – Kasai Burton 2022 Tishomingo point guard
A freshman standout, Kasai Burton was efficient with the ball in his hands. He has a great jumper and could knock down 3-balls out of the dribble. Finishing with 19 points and four 3-pointers. Burton made his mark in the first playoff game of his young career.
Best second-scoring option – Trace Stewart 2019 Marietta wing
Trace Stewart notched 15 points on Saturday night as the second-leading scorer for Marietta. Stewart is a very talented shooter, hitting three 3-pointers for the evening. He is also a great slasher and when he gets his hands on the ball in movement, you might as well not even go up with him.
Best mid-range shooter – Garrett Morgan 2020 Marietta wing
Garrett Morgan finished with 12 points for the Marietta Indians on Saturday night and kept defenders honest by blowing by and pulling up to finish high from ten or so feet on a few occasions. By doing this, he primed the Tish defense to become susceptible to both the long ball and under the basket.
Best supporting payer – Nick Wilson 2019 Tishomingo wing
Senior Nick Wilson finished with 10 points on the evening for Tishomingo. That was good for third on his team. More importantly, however, was Wilson’s hustle-first mentality and ability to spread the floor out by cutting, rotating, and always remaining a threat to score. He also used his long arms to lend Tish a great defensive addition.
