This list puts a spotlight on standouts in Kansas that are on sub .500 teams that deserve some recognition.
Jared Mocaby (2019) – Goddard High School
The football standout has been a bright spot for Goddard this year with his ability to shoot the ball and get into the defense.
The six foot guard is often the catalyst for offensive opportunities and gives Goddard a chance anytime he is playing well.
Colin Schreiber (2021) – Salina South High School
Being only a sophomore, Colin has the potential to make a very big impact as an upperclassman starting next year, as he is getting a lot of great varsity experience.
At 6’1”, Colin is a good shot blocking guard as he uses his length particularly well in transition to block and adjust shots.
Offensively he does well in transition as he’s confident pushing after a block or defensive rebound and runs the court/finishes well.
Tate Webster (2019) – Hutchinson High School
The 6’7’’ big man is still a little raw for the next level but certainly has potential. He is very comfortable with his back to the basket and being productive but can also step out onto the perimeter a little as well.
He has shown good flashes and an ability to shoot the ball or take a bigger defender to the basket as he moves well for his size.
Matt Pauly (2020) – Garden Plain High School
Matt is a quick guard for 4A basketball with good vision and patience as he sees the floor pretty well to create opportunities for his team.
Matt is also an effective downhill driver and finishes well despite only being 5’10’’.
Victor Perez (2019) – Ulysses High School
Victor can get hot in a hurry for Ulysses, as he can shoot the ball very well from beyond the arc which has gotten even better this year over last.
He has shown a decent change of pace in his game and good first step to add some variety to his offensive package.
Standing at about 6 foot, he can bring some value to a small college but Western Kansas is an underrecruited landscape at this point.
Clayton Hood (2019) – Derby High School
We have talked about Clayton a lot this year but rightfully so. The anchor of a Derby team that plays much better than their record indicates has been a presence on both sides of the ball.
In practice he is a good influence for the very young team that Coach Flory puts on the floor and in games he is a scoring threat and always guards the opposing team’s best player.
Holding a couple of NAIA offers, Clayton is also considering junior college offers as Cowley County Community College has been up to see him.
