PrepHoopsTN last checked in with Isaiah Johnson of Cleveland High back in the fall. At the time Johnson maintained consistent contact from nearly a dozen Division II schools.
Many of those college coaches still keep up with Isaiah, including Montevallo, Augusta University, and Barton College.
“He’s definitely drawing much D1 interest and he is playing great,” shared Cleveland High Assistant Coach Reggie Tucker. “Tennessee State (D1) will be into see him as well. Montevallo, Barton College, Augusta [University] came last week.”
Coach Tucker raves about Johnson’s defense on the ball. He calls Isaiah the “best defender I’ve coached.”
Johnson (PrepHoopsTN #55) will play tonight in front of a Chicago State basketball coach. Chicago State is a low major Division 1 program on the southern edge of Chicago, Illinois. Most of Isaiah’s interest and offers are from teams in Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Georgia.
Johnson’s backcourt mate Jacobi Wood will also be evaluated tonight. Penn State sent a coach to Cleveland, Tennessee with the purpose of watching Wood perform live on Senior Night. Unlike Johnson, Wood is a Class of 2020 member and his 17u AAU season awaits.
For Johnson there needs to be greater urgency. His senior season wraps as early as this month, potentially mid-March if Cleveland High advances to the Class AAA State Tournament.
