Triple-doubles and 50-point performances are sought-after for these “Premier Performers” lists. We also like high efficiency games and total stat-stuffers. Below, you’ll find 10 striking performances from this past week.
Nick Reid (Central City) — 76 points, 14 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks
Tied for the second-highest point total in Iowa high school history! Reid’s 76 against East Buchanan was the most since Conway’s Roy Buchanan dropped 86 on Gravity back in 1927. This isn’t the first time Reid has made our eyes pop out of our skulls. He dropped 57 on Midland-Wyoming back in December. Reid, a 6-foot-6 wing, is just a junior.
Hosea Treadwell (Des Moines Hoover) — 42 points
The Huskies have been playing poorly of late, but it appears their star shooting guard Hosea Treadwell is starting to get back on track. This career-high 42 -point outburst came in a loss to Ankeny. Treadwell was 16-22 from the floor in that one, 5-8 from deep.
Alex Van Kalsbeek (MOC-Floyd Valley) — 33 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks
A junior big-man, Van Kalsbeek makes his Premier Performers debut after this big-time double-double against Central Lyon. He was dominant in the post, going 14-17 from the floor. And he was equally as dominant on the defensive end, swatting six shots in the blowout win.
Karson Sharar (Iowa Falls-Alden) — 42 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals
It’s no coincidence that when the state’s 2nd-ranked 2021 prospect re-entered the lineup for the Cadets, they started winning in bunches. One of those wins was last Tuesday night against St. Edmond, and Sharar went off in that game. His shooting-hand ring finger — which he broke in the first game of the season — seems to be just fine.
Charlie Wiebers (Denison-Schleswig) — 41 points, 4 assists, 3 steals
This gem of a game came against Kuemper Catholic, and it certainly put Wiebers on the map. He was not just great in this game, but he’s been terrific all season for the Monarchs. The 5’11 point guard is averaging 16.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game.
Noah Carter (Dubuque, Senior) — 35 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks
It’s now 13 straight wins for the Rams of Dubuque, Senior, and their senior leader Noah Carter has been piecing together a Mr. Basketball-type season. This was one of his better efforts of the winter. We especially like the fact that he snared six offensive rebounds.
Zach Johnson (Dunkerton) — 33 points, 4 assists, 6 steals
Johnson, along with his backsourt mate Brady Happel, have been lighting up opponents for the better part of two seasons now. This particular effort came during a 25-point beat-down of Clarksville. Johnson canned seven 3s in the win, the Raiders’ seventh in eight games.
Jake Hilmer (North Linn) – 36 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, 5 steals
The North Linn mastermind has been routinely stringing stat-lines like this together for nearly four whole seasons now. As a result, he will go down as one of the most accomplished Iowa high school basketball players of all-time. This sensational performance came in Lynx blowout win over previously unbeaten Montezuma.
Logan Wolf (Cedar Falls) — 15 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists
The future Northern Iowa Panther narrowly missed out on a triple-double during a blowout win over Epworth, Western Dubuque. He was selective, attempting only six field goals in the win. He scored most of his 15 at the line, where he was 9-14.
Rian Yates (Oskaloosa) — 26 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists
It’s a triple-double and it came at a very opportune time for for the Indians, against chief rival Norwalk during a 68-47 triumph lat Friday night. With future Division I guys Xavier Foster and Cole Henry catching most of the headlines, guys like Yates fly under the radar a bit for the Indians. But the 6’5 guard is certainly a guy that needs to be reckoned with.
