Introducing Nathan Foutch
Control is an illusion humans create to pretend life follows a predictable path.
It does not.
Nathan Foutch is Nolensville’s starting point guard. It might have been completely different in this his junior season…if he had control.
Buried Dream
“Around sixth grade, I was really big into baseball,” said Nathan Foutch. “I snapped my collarbone in half. I couldn’t pitch anymore.”
Foutch grew up with ambitious, young baseball players. He was one. Nathan always commits to his sport. Back when Foutch was beginning to take baseball seriously he was playing with Brian Garcia, Shane Craig, and others.
Garcia is the starting quarterback now for Ravenwood High and Craig is verbally committed to University of Memphis baseball. Could Foutch have followed that path?
“I mean, I look back at it and wish I stayed with it,” said Foutch. “But, I am kind of content that I stuck with basketball.”
The New Dream
In June 2018, Nolensville Head Coach Wes Lambert approached me raving about his player.
‘I am really excited about Nathan,’ said Coach Lambert. Assuming he meant Nate Bloedorn (PrepHoopsTN #56) I nodded in agreement.
Everybody within three counties knew Nate Bloedorn. For the last two years Nolensville was often described at “That team with Nate.”
Coach Lambert was not talking about Nate Bloedorn. He was, in effect, introducing Nathan Foutch.
“I have never been around a kid that sees the court as well as he does,” said Coach Lambert.
Prior to the 2018-2019 season, Coach Lambert picked Foutch as his Most Improved Player when asked.
“I am here every morning at 7:30 and he is here waiting on me,” said Coach Lambert. “He is undersized and he knows that and he is changing his game to adapt to that. I am excited to see how he takes on that role this year.”
Baseball is not his focus. It has not been Foutch’s plan for four years. When he picked up basketball he transferred the enthusiasm and devotion over.
“I developed a passion to compete with everyone around me,” said Foutch of the transition.
