Hard Work Region Preview: Michigan H.O.Y.A.S.
We may be on the tail end of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Hard Work Region and here’s a look at the Michigan H.O.Y.A.S.
The H.O.Y.A.S. will compete in the 16U age division of the Hard Work Region and will be at Havoc in the Heartland, The Summer Challenge and the Hard Work Region Finals.
I recently caught up with H.O.Y.A.S. Director La’Mar Tyler to learn more about the program and what to expect from his program this season:
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
I began my program in 2010. I started my program to provide less fortunate kids the opportunity to succeed in life through the power of sport.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
My goal for 2019, is to develop my student-athletes into intelligent, skilled basketball players to compete at the next level, but most importantly, better young men!
What is your program’s mission each year?
Our mission is always to Help Our Youth Achieve Success (H.O.Y.A.S.)
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
We have a talented roster all the way through but to highlight a few….
Bryan Tyler 5″8, 2021 Combo Guard ( Highly Intelligent guard who makes everyone better, can handle it, can shoot it, pass it, and now keys in on defense, a true PLAYMAKER) 3.5 GPA
Terrance Brought Jr 5″ 9 , 2022 Combo Guard (Freshman starter on varsity, one of the best shooters in Michigan, can handle it, pass it, keys in on defense, can give you 30 in blink of an eye). 3.5 GPA
Jayland Randall 6’4 2021 Wing ( Very athletic, highly skilled offensively, can score off the dribble, behind the arc, mid range, nothing he cant do offensively)
Jamel Johnson 6″1 2021 PG/SG/SM
Malcolm Clements 5″11 2021 Combo Guard
Ethan Young 6″8 2021 PF/C
Dior Brown 5″10 Combo 2021
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
I chose Prep Hoops because of the exposure and opportunities that it will give our players. We have a deep, talented roster and I believe Prep Hoops will give exposure to ALL of our players looking to play at the next level.
