Grind Region Preview: Tulsa Hawks Elite
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Grind Region and here’s a look at Tulsa Hawks Elite.
Tulsa Hawks Elite will have a team in the 17U division of the Grind Region and will be at the #GrindSzn Kickoff, Spring Kickoff, Midwest Grind Session, Mayhem in the Plex, Show Me Showdown, and Grind Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with coach Jay Calavan.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
Tulsa Hawks have been around for years, but this is the final installment for this group & likely the end of the Tulsa Hawks organization. Originally coached by Bobby Belveal, this year will be handled by John Coons.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
The ultimate goal is to teach our kids to compete with relentless passion game in/game out. If we do that, we will have several players gain exposure that will ultimately allow them to pursue their athletic career at the next level.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Compete against the best possible competition.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
These are our returning players. We will be adding 2-3 more in the next couple of weeks.
Seth Anderson 6’1” Shooting Guard Coweta HS
Conner Calavan 6’4” Combo Guard Fort Gibson HS
J Coons 6’4” Forward Catoosa HS
Caden Hale 6’1” Point Guard Metro Christian HS
Josh Minney 6’4” Forward Sand Springs HS
Blaze Munoz 6’3” Forward Metro Christian HS
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
First class organization and when Matt Reynolds told me he was going to be running this, I knew that tournaments would be professionally done and competition would be top-notch.
